*** 11 MONTHS LATER ***

It was close to the end of the calendar year and the second semester of freshman year had just begun.

Rain was hanging with his bestie, Sky, at his dorm.

They had met during orientation and hit it off immediately despite their different personalities. They had been inseparable ever since.

Rain made friends easily as he was lighthearted and friendly, but also a bit chaotic – which made him a lot of fun to be around. Only Sky, the person that knew him best at Uni, had actually realized that this flighty persona hid a very determined, intelligent person.

People frequently underestimated Rain which gave him an advantage in certain situations. Rain liked it that way.

Sky on the other hand was anything but light. He was a bit grumpy, quirky, and distrusting of people.

He was also focused, smart, and organized which made him one of the top students in their class.

It was funny how they had clicked in the way that they did, but Rain was highly tolerant of people's quirks and he liked that Sky was very straightforward with zero bullshit.

On Sky's end, he liked that Rain brought lightheartedness into his life without demanding too much in return.

There are dark things in his past that made him harden his heart and not trust easily. Rain was one of the few people that had broken through his shell.

He also knew that Rain sensed that there were things in his past that made him gun-shy around people.

Rain had noticed that Sky didn't like being touched and never returned any of the physical affection that Rain showered on him. But to Rain's credit, he never pushed Sky for any details about his past.

He trusted that Sky would tell him in his own time.

Rain left Sky's dorm, which was a frequent gathering spot for their friend group – both to study and to just hang out.

As he was driving back home, it started pouring.

He was having a hard time seeing anything through the windshield, so he slowed down and hiked up the radio to let the music ease the tension building in his body with the difficult driving conditions.

All of a sudden, he heard a pop and the drag of a blown-out tire.

"Shit!" he knew he should have had the car serviced, but he had been so busy with schoolwork that he had just put it off.

He pulled over to the side of the road, under a street lamp, away from traffic as he had been taught by his dad.

He fished out the number for emergency services and the insurance company on his phone.

Even though he didn't know how to change a tire, he knew what he needed to do in this situation. Thank goodness he wasn't helpless.

As he was about to hit dial, he heard the purr of a motor near his car.

He looked out and could barely make out a motorcycle rider parked by the driver's window through the sheets of rain.

He felt nervous as he realized his vulnerable situation and the dangerous images now conjured by his imagination upon seeing this dark, dangerous-looking motorcyclist.

The man tapped on his window.

Huh?? Did he really expect me to put down the window!?

He was alone on the side of the road in a fairly expensive car (BMW). What does he want??
