Rain had never seen Phayu so angry before - never like this!
His body was almost vibrating with rage, but he was keeping a determined grip on it as he tried to get it under control.
But Rain would have been all for someone - preferably P'Chai or the guards - taking Stop down. The guy was an entitled, pathetic, loser who deserved it!
Imagine calling the P'Chai who was P'Pakin's 2nd in command and powerful in his own right, a lackey??!! Stop must be a complete moron if he thought he was going to get away with that!
But now all Rain could think about was the look on Phayu's face as he faced off against Stop. And that look still hadn't eased, an hour after it had happened.
Lord knows his anger was justified, but there was no reason he needed to keep it inside and deal with it on his own. Rain wanted to find a way to bring him back to his usual self.
As the race ended, Phayu directed the mechanics on the clean-up and what to do with the bike that had been damaged by Stop.
The crowds had very quickly dispersed and it was much quieter in the service area than even 15 minutes ago.
Rain approached him as he finished with the mechanics.
Phayu finally looked up and saw Rain's worried face. He took a deep breath and asked Rain gently, "What's the matter?"
"I should be asking you that, Phi. Tell me what's wrong." Phayu looked away from Rain's eyes to try to get his emotions under control.
Rain moved in closer and gently held his cheek. "P'Phayu you look....angry."
"I almost punched that damn boy." Mad at himself for allowing Stop to get the best of his fury.
Rain tried to understand the part that was really bothering Phayu, so he would know how to help him. "Was it because of how he spoke to you or what he did to the bike?"
Phayu looked at Rain and tried to explain, "I'm not angry that I was called a mechanic. Being a mechanic is not an insult to me. I'm proud of what I do......But what he did to the bike...yes, that made me angry."
Ahh, ok. Rain understood. Bikes were Phayu's love.
Of course, he would be upset if someone mistreated the machines that he took such loving care of, and spent hours of his precious time slaving over.
Rain's face lightened. He was proud of Phayu for being so dedicated and caring about the things he did.
So Rain tried to tease him out of his anger, "But the great P'Phayu endured it so well. Whose lover is this cool? Hmm?" Rain made an adorable face that he knew Pahyu couldn't resist, looking at him softly and lovingly.
Then he broke out the big guns....his cute booboo voice, "Please smile a little. Your wifey is scared already."
He could see the anger easing from Phayu's eyes, even though his face stayed stern.
Rain took his hand. "Don't look so fierce. Or your wifey will cry. Please??" He looked adoringly at Phayu with a sweet smile. Phayu's anger melted away.
At that little victory, Rain scooted himself into his arms, wrapping his arms firmly around Phayu's waist. He could feel his body uncoiling and lightness enter his face. And finally, Phayu's arms wrapped around Rain's body.
