Third POV
Maya and Ziggy were both gasping for air, as the two ran while laughing at the prank they had just pulled on Sheila.
Once Maya and Ziggy were back inside the Science and Nature cabin.
Maya chuckled remembering Sheila screams, "Did you hear her?"
"She sounded like a frog" Ziggy replied as she mocked Sheila screams.
Maya laughed and asked, "What did I tell you?"
Ziggy laughed, "Fuck paint." Ziggy said as she looked at Maya with a small smile on her face, "Yeah fuck paint." Maya agreed.
"Who are you?" She asked confused why'd a camp counselor who is Goode would help her pull a prank on Sheila instead of turning her in, and why for the first time she was didn't want to be far way from Maya.
"Maya Goode, nice to meet you, Ziggy." Maya introduced herself sticking her hand out Ziggy shook her hand. Maya could've sworn she saw Ziggy eyes widened for a split second as the two let go much to Maya disappointment who wanted to keep holding Ziggy hand. What Maya was unaware is that Ziggy felt a electric shot when she and Maya shook hands.
"This is the first time she hasn't looked annoyed at me or walked away. Maybe she does like me or at least wants to be friends." Maya thought hope coursing through her veins.
No one but Nick knew about Maya's crush towards Ziggy Berman. When Maya asked how he knew that she liked Ziggy, he replied "You make it obvious because of the way you will look at her, how furious you get whenever Kurt talks bad about her, and you also defend her." It was shocking that no one but Nick figured it out but he promised not to tell anyone and even supported her telling her not to give up on Ziggy.
Soon enough Ziggy and Maya were playing 21 questions getting to know each other better much to Maya's enjoyment and secretly Ziggy felt the same way.
"Next question, what about you and Cindy, do you and her along?" Maya curiously asked she sometimes overhears Cindy complaining to Tommy about Ziggy behavior and see her and Ziggy argue with each other.
Ziggy scoffed at Maya's question, "I thought these were supposed to be easy questions." Ziggy said.
"Well it's 21 questions we can ask each other anything." Maya reminded her as Ziggy walked to the other side of the room, "God I hate snakes." Ziggy tells her trying to change the subject. Maya watches as Ziggy bends down to look at the snake inside the container.
"Why are you ignoring my question?" Maya asked confused why she couldn't answer a simple question. Ziggy stood up turning her attention towards Maya looking at her. Ziggy eyebrows narrowed in annoyance, "Why do you care?" Ziggy asked annoyed.
"I'm just curious." Maya replied shrugging her shoulders, "I've hated her since I was a baby. Next." Ziggy quickly answered not wanting to discuss her sisterly relationship but Maya couldn't help but want to know so she decided to push the topic once more.
"Come on, please." Maya pleaded.
"Why are you so full of shit?" Ziggy exclaimed.
"Huh?" Maya asked confused by Ziggy behavior.
"Maya Goode, the heir apparent, older cousin of Nick Goode and Will Goode, queen of Sunnyvale. Daddy was the police chief. You are going to follow the same path as you're dad..." Ziggy trailed off as she slowly walked around the cabin, "Expect it's all make believe for you. The truth is you like Stephen King and spider and... the weird girl from Shadyside." Ziggy said smirking at the mention of Maya's crush towards her which she found shocking that a Goode would like her.
Maya's eyes widened at the end of what Ziggy said. She clears her throat, "Well, firstly Stephen King is extremely popular. Secondly, I can't like the weird girl." Maya replied back sadly even though she liked Ziggy a lot it was viewed wrong to like girls especially a Sunnyvaler and Shadysider being together.
"Why not?" Ziggy asked.
"Well I'm a counselor and you're a camper." Maya reminded her, "Last year for me. First year for you." She pointed out Maya shook my head.
"Secondly because it's wrong for girls to like girls." Maya said hating homophobic's who can't accept them for who they are. Her parents and Nick accepted her for liking girls but she knew everyone else wouldn't especially during this time period.
Ziggy stayed silent knowing what Maya said was true, "Plus how will I ever get to know her if she keeps avoiding my questions." She asked breaking the silence in the room and sat down in the bench.
Ziggy walked and sat down next to Maya her arms crossed and Maya looked at her waiting to see if she'll answer Maya's question.
"There was a time where things were good between us. When my dad was around and my mom was happy, and my sister and I, we would umm..." Ziggy smiled at the memory and Maya looked at Ziggy with a smile.
"This is the first time I ever seen Ziggy truly smile." Maya thought to herself.
"We'd throw toilet paper on Mr. Corkle's tree, and then go jump in the lake in all our clothes and... now." Ziggy frowned, "Now it's just gone and everything's shit. That's what happens when you live in Shadyside. Everything turns to shit eventually." Ziggy said sadly no longer smiling, "But I wouldn't expect a Sunnyvaler to understand." She sarcastically said trying to lighten the mood.
"Maybe you're right." Maya agreed, "But being the heir apparent especially as a girl makes it harder.... before my dad died, he loaded me with all this pressure 'you're my legacy" bullshit. He just kinda dropped this huge thing on my lap and it doesn't help that my uncle expects me to be a perfect role model for Nick and Will. My parents have my future all planned out and I don't even get a say. I mean maybe that's not what I wanna do." Maya said telling Ziggy of the responsibility she was given she looked up to see Ziggy staring at her.
"Maybe I wanna like Stephen King and spiders and-"
"The weird girl from Shadyside?" Ziggy finished.
Maya finally got the courage and placed her hand around Ziggy waist pulling her closer. At first Ziggy thought to pull away but then she hesitantly leaned her head on Maya's shoulder a small smile on hers and Maya's faces.
"Yeah, the weird girl from Shadyside."
"But uh, I guess there's nothing I can do about it." Maya said disappointed no longer smiling.
Ziggy lifted her head off of Maya's shoulder, "Why not?" Ziggy whispered as she is closed to Maya's face that the two girls could almost kiss. As much as Maya wanted to kiss Ziggy she knew she shouldn't.
"You were right, we should go back asking each other easy questions." Maya said getting up.
Ziggy sighed and stood up, "Okay."
Ziggy faced Maya, "Umm so Maya... would you ever kiss the weird girl?"
Silence filled the room and Maya's eyes drifted to Ziggy blue eyes down to her lips and Ziggy did the same. Maya could no resist the urge and leaned in to kiss Ziggy.
Their lips met and Maya felt Ziggy hand on her cheek. Maya wrapped her arms around Ziggy waist pulling her in closer.
Ziggy POV
This is my first kiss and I actually feel something stirring inside my chest. It was warmth and butterflies. I never wanted this kiss to end.
Maya bent down and picked me up sitting me on top of one of the tables; I wrapped my legs around her waist never breaking the kiss.
Eventually air becomes a problem and Maya pulls away we rest our forehead again each other. I open my eyes to see Maya smiling at me making me smile.
"Who would've thought Ziggy Berman would like a Goode." Maya said excitedly I roll my eyes and pull her into another kiss. Maya eagerly kisses me back. We pulled away when we heard a loud scream. Maya and I looked at each other confused I unwrapped my legs and get off the table we ran out the door running towards the direction we're the scream was coming from.
