Nick POV
"I think I should tell mom it's the only option." Maya tells me as I watch pace back and forth, "I don't think it's the right option. Think how Ziggy is going to feel when you arrive at the hospital with Aunt Allison to visit Cindy. She'll be mad especially when Aunt Allison offers to help and the only way, she would know that Ziggy needs help is because you told her." I told her hoping she'll notice the problem that will occur if she tells Aunt Allison about Ziggy's money problems.
Maya told Aunt Allison the truth that she's been going to Shadyside Hospital after school to visit Cindy Berman one of the survivors of the Massacre and that I been covering for her. The only reason Maya told the truth was because surprisingly Ziggy told Maya that if she wanted to tell her mom the truth where she's been going after school then she could.
"She told me that she's planning on dropping out of school, Nick. She plans on getting a job and it's all because her mom is spending most of the money on alcohol instead of spending the money on paying the house and hospital bills. I can't just stand by and let Ziggy do that. She shouldn't be carrying all this responsibility she's just a kid." Maya ranted she took a deep breath to calm herself down and faces me, "It's the least I can do after all I am the cause of all of this."
I frowned seeing the guilt on Maya's face. I get up from my bed and walk towards her and put my hands on her shoulders, "You need to stop blaming yourself, Maya. What's done is done and unfortunately there's nothing we can do to change it... Maya you need to move on it isn't healthy to keep on holding onto the guilt and think of the what if scenarios. You can't change the past." I said in a calming tone hoping it help Maya.
Maya looks at me tears in her eyes and throws herself at me crying. She finally let out all the emotions she's been bottling inside her since the Camp NightWing Massacre. I hug her and rub her back in circles. Repeatedly whispering that it's not your fault. But I know that no matter how many times I tell her a part of Maya will always blame herself.
Once Maya calms down, "I know how much you want to make up for anything you can by helping Ziggy because you like her and hate seeing her sad. But involving Aunt Allison without Ziggy approving if she wants her help will result in Ziggy being mad at you."
Maya pulls away from me, "Well what do you expect me to do, Nick? I can't watch as she takes on all these responsibilities." Maya exclaimed as she wipes her tears away with her sleeves.
I walk over to my bed and bend down pulling out a box from under his bed he gets up and sets the box on his bed.
"What's in the box?" Maya asked curious what's inside the box.
She gasps when Nick opens the box revealing what was inside the box.
"Ziggy can have the money I saved to help her bills I know it's not much but it's all I have saved up." I explained covering the top of the box with the lid, "That could change." Maya says and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"What do you mean?" I asked only to be ignored by Maya who ran out of my room.
"Maya wait for me!" I yelled grabbing the box and run out of my room following Maya.
Third POV
Allison Goode walked towards Cindy room were the receptionist told her to go to. She stood outside Cindy room she reaches towards the doorknob but stops when she hears talking coming from the room. She debates whether she should leave and give the person in the room with Cindy privacy, but curiosity got the best out of Allison. She looks at both sides of the hallway and sees it's empty before leaning her ear against the door.
"Mom has only visited you once and that was when we were both in the hospital, ever since then she hasn't come to visit you and I know because I would ask the nurse if you had any visitors while I was at school but the nurse said no that I'm the first visitor that has visited you today and since then I quit asking the if you had any visitors while I was at school. Because I already knew they were going to say no, but I shouldn't be surprised she's never at the house anymore, she's wasting all the money on alcohol instead of paying the hospital bills. Umm.... I didn't tell Maya the whole that mom is so behind paying the house that soon enough will be... evicted."
