You stretched your arms as you woke up, and were shocked to feel your arm hit something as you did.
The little boy from yesterday was curled up into your side, tightly hugging his police plushie. He began to stir before waking.
"Good morning Keigo, how are you feeling? Did you sleep well last night?"
He rubbed his eyes a little bit before nodding.
"Is there a reason you were in my futon with me?"
He hugged your side, enjoying the soft warmth of the blankets and the fact he wasn't sleeping on cold concrete.
"I woke up when it was dark and it was scary,"
You gently pat his head,
"Oh, that doesn't sound so nice. Im glad I was able to help,"He hummed, enjoying the comfort.
"Hey bud, how about some breakfast?"
You felt him nod into your shirt.
"Okay, I'm gonna go get it ready. You wanna stay here for a little bit?"
He nodded again, and you got it of the bed, being careful not to disturb him too much.
•
The little boy waddled his way into the kitchen, being led by a pleasant aroma.
He stood next to you at the counter, his eyes barely being able to peek over it.
"What's that?"
You brought the plate off the counter, holding it in front of him so he could get a better look.
"Waffles,"
"C-can I really eat them? Really?"
You nodded happily,
"Of course you can! Let's get you sat at the table first,"He smiled happily before bounding to the table, and after a little help from you, he was seated, excited for waffles.
You set the plate in front of him, cutting the waffle into the bite sized pieces, pouring syrup in part of the plate so he could dip his waffle in it as he pleased.
One bite was all it took for him to show you the brightest smile you'd ever seen.
He took a waffle piece and 'fed' it to his plushie.
"Look Mr. Policeman! I've got yummies, do you want some?"
You smiled at the interaction, remembering your childhood days.
After a while, the boy had finished his food, showing you his plate with a toothy grin.
"I ate it all! It was super yummy!"
You gently pat his head, putting his plate in the sink.
"Good job buddy! I was thinking about going shopping, would you care to join me?"
Shopping? He was never allowed to go shopping before, his dad never let him out, and when he was with his mom, they never had enough money.
"Yes please!"
He jumped up and down in celebration, relaying the good news to his plushie.
•
"Woah, this place is so huge! What's that?"
You held his hand in yours, guiding him around the store,
"That's a mannequin, they help show what clothes look like,"He waved to the mannequin, and was a little disappointed when it didn't wave back.
"Speaking of clothes, I was thinking we should get you some!"
"Woah, really? You mean it?!"
You nodded your head, and the boy seemed ecstatic, once again relaying the new information to his plushie.
You walked him over to the kid's section, with him taking long looks at all of the clothing he passed. He always saw other kids wearing neat clothes, but he never thought he'd be able to!
While walking around, you felt him tug on your hand.
"C-can I get this one please?"
A set of police man pajamas was what he pointed towards, and it seemed like the perfect fit.
"Of course buddy!"
He gave your leg a tight hug,
"Thank you!""No worries,"
You grabbed the pajama set, then grabbing a second one, figuring that if one was in the wash, he could wear the other.
When trying to find him some regular clothes, it seemed as though he was overwhelmed by the amount of choices, so you picked out some simple colorful outfits for him, thinking that he'd have his own taste when he was older.
Wait, older? What do you mean, 'older'? Were you really planning to adopt this child? How would you even be able to do that when his mother still might be out there? What about other relatives of his?
You decided not to think about it, instead focusing on the present.
While the boy wasn't looking, you snuck some toys into your cart, hiding them underneath the clothes. You figured he'd need more than just the police man plush if you wanted him to have a full childhood.
Somehow he managed to grab a box that held a pair of shoes, and held it up for you to see.
"Look!"
You opened the box to find... shoes.
"They light up!"
You chuckled, adding them to your cart, which definitely made him happy.
You payed for all your items, the cashier helping you out in hiding the toys from him. On your way back to your house though, you could notice him staring at the other children, watching as they held the hands of their parents.
You decided to indulge him,
"Hey Keigo, wanna hold my hand?"He hesitantly reached for your hand, and smiled when you gently held his as you walked. If you ever saw his biological parents you'd definitely teach them a lesson they'd never forget. How could they deprive him of such basic needs? Have they never held his hand before?
When you got home, you held a little fashion show for the boy, letting him try on his new clothes which he showed off to you. It seemed like he was having the time of his life, and you decided that this was the moment you'd surprise him with a gift.
Safe to say the hug he gave you after you handed it to him definitely showed his appreciation. The only reason he stopped hugging you was so he could play with his new toy, otherwise he would've hugged you till the sun blowed up.
"Look Mr. Policeman! You have a friend now!"
You watched with a smile as he played with his toys, hopefully giving him the childhood he deserved.
The rest of the day went smoothly, with the boy mainly just playing with his toys near you, every now and then asking you to join.
Soon enough it was time for bed, and the boy refused to sleep without you in the bed with him. Even though his mother wasn't the best, he was always able to find comfort during the cold nights when she held him as he slept, and he wasn't ready to let that go yet.
Of course you indulged him, gently stroking his back as he drifted off to sleep. Oh how you wanted to adopt that boy then and there.
