"Keigo! Breakfast's ready!"

"Coming dad!"

Loud footsteps quickly approached the dining room table before your son sat down, eagerly awaiting his breakfast.

About a decade had passed since you'd adopted him, and you never felt a moment of regret since.

"Your first day of high school, you excited?"

Your son nodded happily, a grin forming on his face as you placed a heaping plate of food in front of him.

"Make sure to make some good friends, and make sure not to hang out with any delinquents!"

Keigo rolled his eyes,
"I won't, dad. Besides, I'll have Touya with me, we got into the same classes,"

You smiled at this,
"That's good to hear. Invite him over sometime, will you?"

"I will,"

The two of you continued to eat the rest of your breakfast, although your son's attention seemed to be directly focused on his phone.

When he entered middle school, you figured it'd be a good idea to give him a way to contact you in case of an emergency, so on his birthday, you gifted him a bright red flip phone.

~flashback~

"Happy 12th birthday, Keigo!"

Your son blew out his candles happily before his eyes homed in on the small gift-wrapped box in your hands.

To be quite honest, he was a bit disappointed. Usually the gifts you got him were a bit larger than this, like last year when you bought model airplane set he'd had his eyes on.

But when the wrapping paper came off, and he saw the phone, it was safe to say he'd found his new favorite birthday gift.

He hugged onto you tightly,
"Thank you so much, dad!"

You patted his head,
"No problem bud. Make sure to take good care of it, alright?"

He smiled brightly at you before hugging his phone tightly to his chest.
"I will! I promise!"

Oh what fun you had back in the day.

You were proud of the young man your son had become, though you'd be lying if you said you didn't miss the little boy who always looked up to you.

"Oh and don't forget you've got therapy tomorrow,"

Your son sighed in annoyance,
"Seriously? I'm fine now, I don't have to go! I haven't felt bad about that stuff in ages,"

"That just means it's working! We'll keep going until your therapist says your good to go,"

He scoffed,
"You know she could just be scamming you, right?"

"Well then she's a really good scammer! Now finish up your breakfast or else you'll be late for school,"

He did as he was told, and just as he was about to leave, you gave him one last hug goodbye.
