Due to some unforeseen stroke of luck, you ended up becoming quite the reputable figure to all the other parents of the kindergarten, even earning yourself a high ranking position in the PTA for the whole school district!
You ended up being able to meet the parents of the children in your son's kindergarten class, well, almost is a better word. You still hadn't met Touya's parents, and you were just a little bit worried.
From your son, you were able to find out that the child adored his father, though the man was usually too busy with his work to see or play with his own son.
You just couldn't help but feel bad for the boy. Every day when the parents picked up their children, you'd find him waiting all by himself, hoping, holding out for the miracle that someone would be there to take him home.
You heard from the other parents that his mother had recently given birth to a new son, which may have explained why you hadn't seen her yet, or why she hadn't picked him up yet.
The boy would perk up whenever he heard an adult walk near, but would deflate when he realized it was a stranger. In the end, one of the faculty members would take him home.
So one day, you got tired of seeing him so sad. You wanted him to be happy for a change!
So you asked your son,
"Babybird, what do you say we walk Touya back to his house?"Your son seemed to love the idea, seeing it as a chance to play with his best friend even more. You talked it over with the faculty members, who seemed to be on board with the idea as well.
Normally they wouldn't permit something like this, but due to your reputation, they made an exception. You've shown time and time again that you were dependable, and wouldn't ever hurt a child.
So you approached the boy carefully, your son trailing close by.
You knelt down to his level,
"Hey buddy, what do you say me and Keigo walk you home today?"He looked to the doors of the room, almost as if he was giving his father one last chance before he made up his mind. It also helped that Keigo seemed to be trying to silently convince him to accept the offer.
So he did.
"Okay!"
You got his address from the faculty members, who also made sure to contact his parents to let him know you'd be taking him to the house.
The three of you made your way down the sidewalks, both children holding onto your hands. Touya missed the feeling of holding someone's hand. He remembered holding the hands of his mother and father while walking through the park, with both of them occasionally swinging him.
It'd been a long while since then. But he supposed holding your hand while talking with Keigo was also pretty nice.
You were a bit surprised to find that the boy's house was a ginormous traditional Japanese styled mansion, but then again, you had heard from some other parents that he came from a wealthy family.
He waved goodbye to you and Keigo before entering his house. He was definitely happier than normal, and his family could see that.
"Touya-nii! You're here early!"
He gave a hug to his younger sister, who continued to question,
"You look happy! Did someone give you something? Can I have some?""No, I didn't get anything. But Keigo's dad walked me home!"
Even if you weren't his father, you got the job done.

Today would be a special day for your son. While he was off at school, you emptied and cleaned out your spare bedroom, then decorating it to what you thought Keigo would like, giving him a nice sized bed as well.
He was definitely ecstatic when he saw you, and you were rewarded with many tiny hugs.
But tonight would be the first time since you'd adopted him that he'd be sleeping alone. For the past month or so, he'd been sleeping in the same bed with you. It was all nice and cute, but you knew at some point he'd need to be able to sleep by himself, so you thought that this was the best course of action.
You tucked him and his plushie into bed, leaving a kiss on his forehead as well before turning his lamp off.
"Goodnight Keigo, I love you,"
He didn't seem to know what was going on, sitting up in his bed.
"You're leaving?"
Your heart clenched at his question, but you knew you had to stay strong.
"Yes Keigo, you get to sleep alone now. But don't worry, you'll see me again in the morning!"
He sank back down underneath the sheets,
"Okay..."You felt like a horrible person, but you knew you had to be at least a little strict with the boy or else he may grow up to be spoiled.
But oh how nice it was to finally have your bed to yourself. Keigo was very prone to kicking in his sleep, and you'd be surprised at how strong five year olds can be. Though there was a distinct sadness to it, and the cause was pretty obvious.
You were just about to get out of bed when you heard a knock on your door, which opened to reveal your son, who seemed quite sad.
He jumped into the bed and hugged your tightly,
"I don't wanna sleep alone! It's scary and I miss you!"You cooed gently to him as you hugged him back, and he was able to calm down pretty quickly. He gave you a guilty look.
"I'm sorry... please don't be mad?"
You squished his cheeks,
"Oh I could never be truly mad at you. You're my precious son! And it's not your fault either, I might've gotten a little hasty in trying to get you to sleep alone,"You raised your blankets to let the little boy under the covers, and he hugged your side.
You gave him another kiss on the forehead,
"Goodnight, little bird,""Goodnight dad!"
You both dreamed happily that night.
