« You are really not going to help me, don't you? »

Pete sighed, shaking his head obviously annoyed.

He was trying his best not to kick his friend sitting in front of him, lazily knotting the rope that would be used for the fishing trip they both prepared.

Pete on the contrary was full of stamina, bustling around loading the boat, determined to take the best out of his three days of vacation.

« It's so freaking hot » Tam mumbled throwing the rope at Pete who catch it, letting out a heavy sigh he rolled back his eyes and threw the rope on the boat exasperated.

« Oii! I know! It's hot, it's humid, it's windy, or there's too much freaking sand! Can't you just stop being sorry for yourself! He was trash! And he didn't deserve you. »

Pete was losing patience, he grabbed a bottle of water and threw it at Tam, but the later, lost in his thought didn't see it coming. The bottle hit his face with force.

Tam felt backwards and stayed spread on the sand without moving, his gaze lost in space.

« Oh shit! »

Pete rushed towards him and kneeled, leaning above him, he touched his face gently to check on the now red cheek of his friend.

« Now, not only my heart hurt, but my head also too »

Tam whined, his eyes squinted dazzled by the bright sun, trying to look at Pete.

Pete laughed, but this laugh was full of tenderness and compassion. He grabbed his friend shoulders and shook him gently.

« Come on! You need to let it go. You have to stop letting people hurt you. Sometimes you need to stand up for yourself! »

Pete head slowly moved above Tam, progressively hiding the sun, shadowing his face little by little.

Tam could finally see Pete's eyes, his tender gaze hiding this hint of strength and determination that Tam always admired.

«Easy to say you never had your heart broken. »

« It's not only about love, but it also stands for every kind of relationship. When someone is purposefully hurting you, you have to walk away. You have to protect yourself; nobody is coming to save you. Only you can save yourself. »

As the words were gently spoken, Tam was hooked on Pete's eyes; those eyes he didn't realize he missed so much since the last time they saw each other two years ago.

Tam tried hard, very hard, to move on. He tried to forget this friend he had deep feelings for.

But suddenly and unexpectedly, those feelings came rushing back inside his heart as Pete was bending above him, trying to comfort him, trying to heal the wound made by another man.

« Not everyone deserves to be forgiven, Tam »

Pete smiled. His smile. His bright, genuine and ethereal smile that was eclipsing the sun.

Tam stayed silent, mesmerized once again, his heart beating harder in his chest.

Pete eventually got up and extended his hand towards Tam, still smiling brightly. Tam slowly grabbed it and got up too. Pete dusted Tam's pants and shirt, without letting go of his hand.

And once again, the warmth of his fingers, the softness of his skin, his so familiar scent, brought him back ten years ago, violently. Inside the soft and comforting sensation spread, leaving him no other choice but to surrender.
