TW: Blood
-Vegas-
I was used to those kinds of situations. I grew up in it.
The rush of adrenaline, the blood running fast in your veins, your heart in your throat. The fear. My heart was racing and even if I tried to keep a clear head, it felt different now.
Because of Pete. Because I wanted to protect him. Because I was terrified by the idea of something happening to him.
Standing on the other side of the room, putting his clothes on quickly, I looked at him for a second.
Pete and this gaze that never left him since he woke up. That determined, fierce and dark gaze. The one he had before I came into his life.
That gaze he thought he lost, but in fact was still hiding deep inside behind all the things I put him through.
The gaze of a warrior ready to fight everything to protect what matters the most for him.
And when he grabbed the gun of my grand father and loaded it, my heart dropped. I knew I could try anything to stop him, nothing will ever make him back down. Not anymore. Not after all he been through.
That's why I grabbed his hand instead of pushing it away. That's why I didn't try to convince him to stay in our bedroom, safe and sound.
Pete is not under my protection anymore. He is his own protector. And even if I could feel a pinch in my heart just thinking about it, I accepted it. Either way, I had no choice.
We were both ready. And we were from the start.
As my hand was about to grab the doorknob someone knocked loudly at our door, making the both of us jump in fright. I pushed Pete behind me, protecting him with my arm quickly, and aimed my gun at the door.
"Khun Vegas! Khun Pete! Wake up!"
It was the voice of Lek and without hesitation, I opened the door.
"Where's Venice?!"
Pete asked without letting us time to say anything, he pushed me on the side to walk toward Lek, still holding tightly his gun.
"In my bedroom, Khun Pete. He is still sleeping. I locked the door behind me."
Pete let out a sigh of relief and turned towards me. And when our eyes met, I knew his decision was made.
"Go. Go with him. And lock the door behind you." I said, nodding.
But my jaws clenched as I stared at Pete's eyes. He held my gaze, and I knew he didn't want to leave me. But I also knew that Venice was holding Pete's heart.
I wanted him safe, and sound and Venice was the perfect excuse.
Pete nodded and ran away after grabbing the key that Lek handed to him. And even if all that scene happened in a few seconds it still feels like the time stood still.
"Khun Vegas, the loud noise was not a gun shot. I'm sure of it." Lek whispered still on his guard.
I already knew it. But the only thing I was wondering was who screamed? I was trying to replay it in my head and still the voice felt unfamiliar.
« We need to check on Macau first » I said, loading my gun.
Lek nodded and led the way towards Macau's room, silently and discreetly, holding his gun and ready to use it if something, someone was showing.
I turned my head to the left and right, holding my gun tightly too.
The hallway was dark, we could barely see anything apart from the dim moon light. I extended my hand and tried to turn on the light. But when I pressed the button, nothing happened; I tried multiples time but still nothing.
