-Pete-
I always believed that certain events in our lives are preordained by natural forces. I always felt that, sometimes, even if we try hard to avoid things to happen, even if we are trying with all our might to run away from something, someone, in one way or another, it will catch you always.
I always lived my life that way. I always felt that if I was there, at this right moment, it was because those natural forces didn't want me to be anywhere else.
And when I learned that Vegas and me met years before he captured me, it was just another example of what I believed in.
Fate.
It's been three days since I woke up and I spent the majority of my time adjusting with everything around me. Trying to catch up with every events, with everyone I care about.
And one of those people were my grandparents. I know it was really difficult for them during those past six months.
Despite their great age they were not afraid to come back and forth from Chumphon to Bangkok just to spent a few days with their unconscious grandson.
When Khun Kinn called grandma Jie to tell her I was awake she cried a lot. She couldn't believe that her prayers were heard.
And I wanted to hear her voice, to see her, that's why I decided to facetime her this morning.
I grabbed my phone and pressed call, my heart was beating rapidly in my chest. I didn't realize how much I missed her until I could hear her so familiar voice.
"Hello? Grandma?"
"Krkkrkrkr Pete! Krrkrkr"
"Grandma? Y-You're supposed to put the phone in front of you for me to see you."
"Krkrkrkr Lew! I'm so happy to finally hear your voice lew!krkrkr"
"But you could also see my face if you put your phone in front of you!"
"Krkrkrkr Oh! Oh Pete! My child!"
"Grandma...It's so good to see you. Oh no, no, don't cry grandma"
"I prayed every day my child, everyday for you to survive. My Pete how happy I am to see you!"
"I'm happy too grandma. Thank you for taking care of me while I was in a coma. I know it must have been exhausting to do the travel"
"It was not lew. You grandpa can drive perfectly fine if he doesn't forget his glasses. And we spent good time with Kinn and Tankhun at Khun Korn's house. Oh and that little daredevil ! What a sweatheart!"
"Daredevil?"
"Yes, Venice, the son of ...Your friend."
And as I heard her pronouncing the word friend I could feel something weird. Her voice was surprisingly calm and her face suddenly changed as she seemed to turn into Sherlock Holmes in three seconds.
I froze and quickly straightened as I could see my face progressively becoming pale.
"Oh..Oh yes, Venice...and Vegas." I laughed awkwardly, scratching my neck.
I gulped hard as I was watching my grandma giving me a side eye.
"Yes...Vegas. He was there every day when you were sleeping...He didn't talk much. But I could see he was taking a good care of you. What a wonderful...friend."
Grandma was still looking at me suspiciously every time she was pronouncing Vegas' name. I smiled, a dumb and stupid smile, as I was little by little not feeling my legs anymore.
