They faced each other for some time. John had his finger on the trigger, which should have been an advantage, but he didn't feel like he could win. It was purely by chance that he shot Lionel dead. Even at point-blank range, he was more likely to miss his aim due to gun recoil. John considered putting the gun away so he could talk to Jay again. But he changed his mind. If he did, Jay would have to kill him to keep his mouth shut. Kill or be killed.... Then John heard a flapping sound overhead. When he looked up, there was a winged lion with a woman's face - a sphinx.

Jay was dumbfounded when he saw the Sphinx land. the sphinx asked him.

"Who are you?"

"Jay—" Jay tried to give his real name, but restated. "No, I'm Eddie Daybright."

"Wrong," said the Sphinx deadpan.

The Sphinx pounced on Jay and held him down. Jay flapped his limbs in resistance. The monster's sharp claws ripped through his skin and gouged out his flesh. Jay was quickly mutilated to death.

Hearing Jay's scream, Jacqueline rushes out of the mansion.

"Eddie!"

The Sphinx looked at Jon and asked him the same question it asked Jay.

"Who are you?"

John replied with his real name.

"Ding ding ding! Correct!"

The sphinx smiled and flew away.

Jacqueline clings to Jay's corpse and cries.

"Eddie! Eddie! My boy!"

A large funeral was held in the town church. Jay was buried under the name of Eddie Daybright in a grave dug by Big Mac.

Jacqueline then mourned. She wore a black dress with a black crepe mourning band, a black petticoat, black silk stockings, a black-rimmed cheesecloth handkerchief, and a black veiled bonnet.

Six months later, when the mourning ended, John decided to say goodbye to Jacqueline. He was worried about Jacqueline, but now that he was learned the damn truth, he could not be with her anymore.

"I have something to tell you," said John bravely. Then Jacqueline also said that there was something she wanted to talk about.

"Please tell me."

John gave her his turn, intending to show kindness before parting.

Jacqueline blushed slightly and shyly confessed.

"Actually, I'm pregnant."

"Eh?"

"Our baby. I'm sure Eddie will be happy to have a brother or sister."

John couldn't say anything.
