Dorothy returned to the carriage.
"Can you get down to the ground?" asked Mr. Gillespie menacingly.
"Perhaps," replied Dorothy, then "ladies, move over here."
"Are we going down there?" asked Mrs. Miller.
"No, it's not."
"Then what for?"
"We'll get out the other door, but before that there's something we need to do. This can cause the carriage to shake a lot. For your safety, I will ask you to evacuate to this side."
"What are we men going to do when we evacuate the women?" Mr. Tait, a banker, asked anxiously. An elderly gentleman with white hair. He was holding his leather bag in his arms.
"There's a pumping windmill stuck in an adjacent tree. If we can turn it from horizontal to vertical, we can use it as a ladder to get down."
"Is that dangerous work?" asked Mrs. Miller.
"I don't think so," replied Dorothy.
"Then let's do it," said Mr. Miller.
"Hey, don't decide that on your own!" objected Mr. Gillespie. "It's important."
"You say it's better not to do anything here," said Mr. Miller. "You think that if we wait, someone will come to help you?"
"I don't think so, but everyone's lives are at stake."
Then they heard a buzzing sound.
"What?"
They saw something flying outside the window. It wasn't a giant eagle. It resembled a dragonfly, but was much larger in size. Its wings overlapped up and down instead of back and forth.
"It's a new monster! Everyone, don't shout!"
Mr. Gillespie screamed.
The flying object circled around the carriage for a while, but eventually flew away.
"What a relief," reassured Mr. Gillespie. Mr. Miller asked him.
"What are you going to do? The giant eagle will surely come back soon. Still, do you want to stay here without doing anything?"
