Annabeth's POV

I had told Chiron about the ocean kidnapping Percy. he seemed mildly annoyed but otherwise okay about it. I was sitting on the dock when the water started churning. I scrambled up and off the dock when two people shot out like rockets. Percy stood up

"Hey wise girl," he said

"Seaweed brain! you jerk! getting kidnapped by the sea? why!" I hugged him as I shouted. He moved slightly to the side. I saw a new girl, wearing a glittering jumpsuit made of scales.

"Percy? who's this?" I ask

"My twin sister, Ariana," he says. I punch him.

"stop lying, Seaweed brain"

"I am his sister. you must be Annabeth." the new girl says

"Where have you been? if you're like Percy, you're a daughter of Poseidon. how did you survive monsters independently?" I said

"I lived in Poseidon's domain. I grew up there. I missed the giant war because of some accidents with a squadron of Telkhines, a godly form, and a clamshell." she says. "my name is Ariana." Ariana looks at me with a tilted head.

"Okay. we're going to Chiron" I say, then grab them both and drag them to the big house.

"This is new," Chiron says

"I didn't know I had a twin until Poseidon sent the wave and had me open Ariana's clamshell. it's new to me too." Percy said, throwing Seymour a sausage.

"I thought Amphitrite opened the shell," Ariana says

"Nope. dad had me do it" Percy adds, biting into a vanilla/lemon muffin

"Ariana? why were you in that shell anyway?" Chiron asks

"I was fighting a legion of Telkhines during the Titan war. I got ambushed by reinforcements, so I ordered my squadron to retreat as I held off the monsters. I fought for my life, then I..." she trails off like the memory is painful, tears sneaking out from her eyes

"Revealed a godly form. she nearly died." Percy finishes. I drop my cup. Chiron looks flabbergasted

"I did not expect that. It must have been hard for you" Chiron wheels closer to Ariana and touches her shoulder. She starts weeping.

"I have one memory before Percy opened the shell. Pain" she says, gasping through her sobs. her hair is dampened by her tears and starts moving of its own accord, like tentacles. they dry her face. Chiron gently touches one

"Your hair just does this?" he ponders

"Only when it's wet." Ariana wipes her face. the room gets darker, the sunlight dimmer.

"What's happening?!" I shout. Ariana's hair goes bolt upright, still hovering gently

"I think Ariana's hair is absorbing light," Chiron says "Ariana? can you make the room normal again?" he asks.

"Yeah. gimme a minute." she concentrates, and her hair flops down, three inches longer.

"Why does it do that?" I think of reasons

"An adaption to the underwater realm of Poseidon, I think. Ariana needed light somehow, so her hair adapted to absorb whatever light it could get. Am I right?" he asks Ariana

"I think so. I need sleep," she mumbles, stumbling out of the room. I get up and follow her as she moves toward the sea.

"Poseidon has a cabin, you know." I gently led her there, giving other campers, who were staggering to bed themselves, a death glare when they tried to question Ariana. she opens the door and passes out on an empty bunk. I head back to the big house.
