"It requires a human sacrifice to close"

Ariana's POV

Percy looks at me like I just killed a puppy "A human sacrifice?"

"And we can't just pick some random mortal and throw them in, they have to give their life of their own free will," I say "The more willpower the person has, the easier it is for them to jump through" I roundhouse kick a charging emposai, then stab her heart

"So, we have two solutions to this problem. one, we interrupt the casting, two, a demigod jumps in and sacrifices itself. I prefer option one." Reyna nods at Annabeth's notion

"So let's interrupt a spell. we can either kill Circe or knock her off course with her chanting" I gesture to the platform "Any luck getting it out of the sky?"

"No, but we have a team working on that" Hermione shoots a spell at the attacking wizard, who was tiring, his blocks more sluggish "Keep firing! he's slowing down!" Hermione rallies the students, who fire at a faster rate, managing to reduce the wizard to a crumbled heap. the spell holding up the platform wavers. Rain starts pattering the field, and it falls in hot, sticky drops. Circe lets out a triumphant cackle as the gate begins to open

"It's now or never! Concentrate fire on Circe!" I shout, and the platform drops a few feet as a wizard stops holding the spell to fend off the students

"FOOL! ANY MORE INTERRUPTIONS AND YOU WILL BE A PIG FOR THE REST OF YOUR DAYS!" Circe howls as the platform keeps seeping downward. the monster's ranks were diminishing quickly, stuck in an entrapment maneuver, surrounded as our fighters closed in. the gate gets wider with every passing moment.

"We need to close the gate! hurry up!" I shout at Hermione, who was trying to hit Circe, but the attacking wizard always blocked "He's vulnerable when guarding Circe!" I alert them. they split firing at the wizard when he was guarding Circe, and the platform finally falls, moments after Circe finishes the incantation to open the gate, a long, echoing howl erupts from its endless maw.

"We failed" Percy lowers his sword "We failed" Annabeth cuts Circe's throat before she can charm speak.

"Not yet, little brother" I touch his face. "We can still close it" I ruffle his hair

"No, you're not going in there! I just found you" He holds my shoulder.

"I'm the only one all the others are not attached to. Goodbye, little brother, I'll see you in the underworld." I pull out of his grasp and throw myself into the Hellgate.

Percy's POV

I spent the entire time we remained at Hogwarts in mourning, always at Annabeth's side, or looking at a golden severed heartstring. All the demigods had helped to repair whatever damage was done to the school, then, in a circle with Nico and Hazel, shadow traveled to Camp half-blood. I was sitting on the beach, after having to tell our dad what happened to Ariana. a globe of water floats up to me, and it ripples beneath my fingers

"Hey, Percy." Ariana's voice "I know if we fail and Circe opens a Hellgate, I probably jump in. If I do, this message will find you and you get to hear my last words if I'm wrong. this message will just melt into the sea, and you never have to hear it. I learned a new song lyric, "If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough" It fits you, little brother, my tough survivor. Life's going to keep moving, and you can't dwell on my death, okay? I need you to promise me, my memory, that you'll move on." Her voice cuts out. I hold Ariana's last words, replaying them, four, or five times until Annabeth finds me.

"We need to have a memorial" I play her words again

Ariana's memorial takes place at dusk on the beach, where I use the water to make a moving picture of her, dancing at the ball, fighting monsters, laughing, and singing beside us at the campfire. Silent tears creep down my face and all the demigods who fought beside her at Hogwarts, who saw her endless wrath toward those who hurt her friends.

I Iris messaged our mom and told her what happened. we cried together for her.

I sit on my bunk, having put Ariana's last words into a water pitcher, so I could hear her voice when I missed her too much to bear. I had known her for a month. A MONTH, before she threw herself toward death to save kids she didn't even know. If the judges of the dead didn't put her in Elysium, I would go down there and kick their ghostly butts, then give Hades an earful. I looked at my heartstrings again, watching as the cut end of my string with Ariana waved around, looking for its other half, who is lost.

THE END

Just Kidding!

Ariana's POV

I was chained, my hands held above my head, my feet bound together in a shackle. I had no strength, it all being leeched by the chains that radiated darkness and death.

"Our guest has woken up" A booming voice that makes my blood cold "All we require, Ariana Jackson, is your cooperation" claws run across my face

"Why do you need my cooperation? and for what?" My voice is a hoarse whisper

"A fighter? how long can you hold out? I will have fun breaking you" He punches my head

"Forever. I'll hold out forever" I managed to croak before sliding into sweet oblivion...

3rd Pov

A smoky figure saw what happened and teleported to lady Athena

"Yes?"

"She has been taken,"
