I realized halfway through part nineteen that we never got to see Ariana's reaction to the 20th century! so here it is!

(This part will have some content that is connected to the plot.....)

Annabeth's POV

We had been wandering through New York for an hour and Ariana's amazement never ceased. She was spinning around in central park before we wandered into a department store and she had somehow bought herself an MP3 player and headphones, a pair of combat boots, and a hairclip that looked like a turtle, where she got the money, I'll never know. We wandered into a photo booth, where we made silly faces and laughed. Then we went to the library and spent a solid forty-five minutes downloading songs, sampling each one before adding it to her MP3.  Percy laughed as she pulled a book of fairy tales from a shelf, then promptly lost a half-hour to her wandering the shelves and testing books. she scowled and screamed at "The little mermaid" but fell in love with "Island of the blue dolphins" we nearly had to drag her out

"Why must we leave the place full of knowledge? there was enough in there to rival the library of the gods!" she whined as we lead her to an A&W

"The gods have a library?" I asked

"Yep. the place hardly got touched by Kronos, it's hidden behind the Muses amphitheater and a few fountains. Dad took me there once." we had gotten a place in the lunchtime lineup. Ariana produced a credit card

"Dad told me mortals use a thing like this? do you know how to use it?" Ariana handed me the card when I said I could. I tapped the card for our lunch order.

We sat down with our trays and dug in, Ariana enjoying her Grandpa burger while Percy and I enjoyed teen ones. she could put away food faster than both Percy and I

"Can we go back to Central park after this?" Ariana flicked a fry into her mouth

"Why? we spent an hour there this morning," Percy said, his mouth full of lettuce

"Because the Dryads are so nice! I think they appreciate the care they get from the groundskeepers there." she was halfway through her fries

Percy smiled "You should meet Grover"

"Who's Grover?" Ariana looked up from her root beer

"Lord of the Wild? Oh, right" Percy blabbered. Ariana finished her root beer, slamming it on the table

"I'm going back to Central park" she put her dishes on the tray, then skipped out the door.

"Your sister is the weirdest half-blood I've ever met" I kiss his cheek

"I'm going to agree with you on that count," He says, then picks up our empty trays, plunks them down with the rest, and chases after Ariana.

Trudging through central park, we spot Ariana sitting by the roots of a forty-foot-tall elm tree, talking with its dryad.

"Hey!" she spots us "I love Central park. everything is so clean" She flops onto the grass. the dryad giggles then disappear in a puff of leaves.

"We should go back to camp," I say. Ariana jumps up

"I'll go make the portal!" she sing-songs, running away "Try and catch me!" she turns back

"Wait up!" Percy pleads. I laugh as we race after her.

Ariana blazes through every activity we put in front of her. Archery? bull's eyes. climbing wall? no problem. A mountain of hot dogs? gone faster than Zephyrus. she failed the canoe race though, questioning why we needed boats and just beat everyone by swimming, then decided to dry off the mortal way by laying in the sun for a while.
