Harry's POV

All classes had been suspended because of the arrival of students for the Triwizard tournament and yule ball. we all sat at breakfast, anticipating as we ate. four different boys had asked Ariana out, but she had politely declined each candidate. Hermione had looked at her with the most questions in her eyes as she could manage. The other black haired boy-Nico was quietly sulking.

"Can't believe my stupid...stuck in Hufflepuff...can't even see him" Ariana elbowed him

"Cheer up death breath! I can't seem to find anyone who pleases my... patron." she went back to shoveling scrambled eggs into her mouth. Malfoy, who had slid up faster than expected, snorted

"You eat like a pig!" he said "And weasel looks like one!" he remarked. Ariana moved so fast no one saw it until she had Malfoy held beneath her, his neck perched precariously underneath her foot. the whole hall was staring at her

"I heard that." she growled softly. "and so what if my metabolism is 4 times yours, filth?"

"Yeah, and my dad's more powerful than yours. he can have yours thrown into Azkaban just for threatening me" he thought that would get him out of trouble. Ariana just laughed.

"My dad could kill yours with a blink of his eye. remember that. this is your only warning" she got off him. Malfoy made a tactical retreat. Ariana sat back down and nibbled toast.

"Who's your dad?" Hermione just couldn't bottle up her questions anymore

"Someone you never want to meet in a bad mood" She turned her head away. touchy subject

Ariana's POV

Hermione was ridiculously nosey! questions questions questions! I dealt with the jerk, and still more questions! I had gone to the lake to blow off steam when Percy caught up with me.

"Ariana!" he shouted

"What?"

"Half the boys in the school want you as a yule ball date, be careful!" he grabbed my arm

"HA! Aphrodite won't let them!" I let loose a laugh

"Aphrodite won't let them?" he asked

"Aphrodite takes a personal interest in girls pretty enough to turn the heads of boys who have girlfriends. I just happen to be one of them. now I'm stuck with an enchantment to make me more pretty, a snippy goddess in my head, and a school full of single boys who think I'm the hottest thing since volcanoes! Ugh!" I passively summoned a raincloud over Percy's head before tromping into the lake. he looked upset, then sulked on back to the castle.

Hermione's POV

I was determined. Ariana stormed off, sat in the lake for an hour without casting an enchantment to breathe and came back with a hurricane surrounding her and drenching everyone she passed. I found her sulking in her bunk.

"Ariana?" I pulled back the curtains

"What do you want!?" she turned to me and was sobbing. I took a step back. she was glowing

"You're glowing." I nearly fell over

"Doesn't matter. What do you want?" she wiped the tears off her face

"I was curious about you saying you lived underwater" I shuffled nervously. she started weeping uncontrollably.

"I can't talk about that" she pulled the curtains. I still heard her muffled sobs. The storm picks up outside, making the windows rattle dangerously

"Ariana?! are you making this happen?" I eye the window warily

"I don't care anymore" she sniffed. the window broke, the storm whipping inward with a lasso of thrashing rain. The other girls who were trying to fall asleep got blasted by howling winds and stinging water. Ariana was the only one not affected, her tears adding to the maelstrom

"Ariana! please help us!" I screamed over the howling wind that was determined to sweep me out the window

"Why should I care?" a cloud seemed to wrap around her, picking her up. she screamed, and the whole storm dissipated, leaving behind a ruined room and a shattered window. I picked myself up and pointed my wand at the window

"Reparo" I whispered, my wand trembling with my hand. I pointed my wand at Ariana "Stupefy" the spell connected with her and fizzled out, doing nothing.

I continued to repair the rest of the room when McGonagall burst into the room still half in tatters

"What happened?!" she screeched

"Ariana" was all I managed to say. McGonagall threw her curtains open to find her surrounded by a puddle of-was that seawater. no-her own tears. she shook her awake

"What happened?" McGonagall asked

"Storm. window. rain. lake." Ariana murmured. The blond one-Annabeth came in and sat by Ariana on the bed. she managed to coax the full story from her

"Ariana and her twin-Percy, aren't supposed to exist. they are illegal children made outside of a binding pact. She was raised with her powers always at full, learning how to control them in unsafe situations. she never learned how to control them when confronted with traumatic injuries and memories. somehow, Hermione triggered one of those memories and it caused her to lose control of her powers." Annabeth held Ariana, who kept sobbing quietly

"Ariana caused the whole storm?" McGonagall looked horrified

"No, but she took control of it. Hermione, did you find yourself in danger while the storm blew through?" Annabeth asked

"It tried to pull me out the window," I said

"That was Ariana's subconscious response. you triggered the memories, so she felt resentment toward you for causing her pain." McGonagall filled in the gaps

"Yes. she had no control over what was happening." Annabeth stood up and turned to me "I would avoid asking the same questions you asked tonight because Ariana is a powerful being, who, when is in full conscious control of her abilities, will not hesitate if you agitate her further." Annabeth left the room. I turned to McGonagall

"I would recommend following Annabeth's instructions. If that is Ariana's response to a memory..." she trailed off

"What would happen if we were caught in the way of her full anger channeled directly toward us?" I finished
