Shuri/Kat (earlier that day)

When I wake up I'm in Rue and Lotties living room. I hear the shower running, I look at the time on my Kimoyo beads, it's seven thirty. I write a quick note, clean my area then Leave.

I checked in with General Ayo as I walked to my room. Everything seems to be running fine at home. She wasn't quite pleased when the Dora's reported to her that I slept somewhere that wasn't my dorm on the first night.

A few months ago I decided I wanted to have a normal American college experience. It took King M'Baku and the elders forever before they approved my request. The agreement was once I graduate I have to take being black panther and head of Wakandas technological advancements seriously. So far I'm having more fun than I thought I would've.

I chose the safest college with a smaller student body. Everyone just thinks I look like "the princess of Wakanda". So far I haven't been called out. I've found a very cool group of kids to hang around. They're all smart and chill as hell. Simon, Alexis and Joe are people I would hang around at home. Lottie seems cool so far. Rue is really pretty, she's also weird in a good way. She's definitely not my type but she's has really peaked my interest since I laid eyes on her in class on my first day. She keeps shooting me down, I'll take no for answers for now.

I accidentally slept at her dorm because I drank for the third time in my life last night. I should've took the high road and said no. Hey, we're here to try new things though.

When I get to my dorm room I shower, thankfully there was still time for me to get my own dorm and I didn't have to share. After moisturizing I see I've missed my friends call. Since I have a lot of time I call her back.

"Riri, Hi." I say into the iPhone that I sadly have to use, it's old tech. Primitive, as my old friend Okoye would say.

"Hey Shuri, you're looking good." She says making me blush.

"Not as good as you." I smile. I've always had a soft spot for her. It just was never our time. We remained friends, it's better that way.

"How was your first day of classes?" She asks.

"It went really great. I went out last night with some of the students. They're very hospitable."

"That's good, be careful though. Some people aren't always who they seem to be." She warns me.

"Trust me, I had Griot run a full background check on everyone for me. They're all pretty clean, a speeding ticket or two but they're all good people." I smile.

"No one noticed you yet?" She looked amused as she started to do her makeup.

"No, thankfully. It's funny though, they all think I look like "the princess of Wakanda" so they've started calling me Shuri." We both fell into a fit of laughter. "I know right, if only they knew."

"The accent isn't a dead give away?" She pulls out her eyeliner pencils

"No, surprisingly I'm doing a swell job." I say with my American accent. I had to study it for weeks.

"Wow, it's almost good. Just don't use words like swell and you got it love."

We talk for about an hour or so then she leaves for class. I promised her I'd call her when I got home.

When I went to class I didn't see Rue. That's crazy seeing as she had been up when I left her house this morning.

"Good morning, where's Rue?" I ask Simon.

"Hey, she's probably going to be late, she had three tutoring sessions this morning." He says.

"That's absurd." I frown.

"There are things that makes since to Rue that'll never make since us. She's been through more than one person her age should. She likes to keep herself busy, it's beneficial to her." He explains.

"I see." I mutter. My mind wonders to me in my mourning period of my late brother T'Challa. I held myself up in my lab day and night.

Class had started and there was still no sign of Rue.

Fifteen minutes or so went by before she tried to sneak in. The teacher is highly upset.

He asks her to read to the class, she starts displaying signs of an acute panic attack once she starts to read. I decide to take over for her.

Once I'm a paragraph into the first chapter she drops her book and runs out of the room.

"Shit, she was doing so good." Simon mumbles under his breath.

"Is she okay?" I ask once I'm done reading.

"Yeah, she's going to my moms office. She'll be okay." He looks back down into his book.

Once class is over as I pack my things into my bag I ask a question that's been heavy on my mind. "Does Rue have anxiety?"

"That's a question you're going to have to ask Rue." He says.

"Yeah, that's probably best." I say.

"Hey, I say this as a big brother. Not as your new friend, If you're trying to peruse a relationship with my sister, forget about it. She's been through enough. She doesn't need a meaningless semester fling. She needs stability, there are guys that have tried. They only ever made things worse. I just want to see her happy. So please, just keep it at a friendly level. I need to do whatever it take to make sure she's happy." He states .

"Okay, you have my word." I dap him up. I can't do anything but respect him, growing up my brother was very protective of my well-being.

Fuck.

When walking out of class I see Rues book she dropped. I put it in my bag and make a mental to give it to her when I see her.
