More and more humans started appearing from the walls and the the balcony. Like ants swarming grasshoppers, they set their swords against an enemy much larger than themselves. The hall was full of shouts and growls. Chaos and it was charging at me.

My blood began rushing and pounding in my head. My eyes watered. My heart was pounding along inside my chest like a drum. Everything started moving more slowly. The first one came and i dodged with a jump but my landing was uncoordinated and I stumbled. Dante tail whipped the guy backward where he fell into other humans likely getting cut in the process. I saw his path of gaze to the throne. Where elites were fighting. That was his priority.

"Stay close." He told me as he made his way forward.

But that wasnt my priority.

My head involuntarily turned in the direction I knew they would be. My babies. Cerastes is with them but the thought consumed me. They couldn't wait. I took off. Sprinting for the door that the invaders had poured out of before. Shoving people out of the was and running clumsily. A sword grazed my hip but I didnt stop. I ran out of the room. I heard the sound of feet behind, but it was human not Dante.

But he couldnt keep up even with my dizziheadedness. The door broke when it swung open. Falling off its hinges with a loud crash. Bruising my arms, i ran in to walls because i didnt have the ability to slow down or judge the distance between me and the wall.

It could heal later. My breath was strained and gasping. I felt the panic rising in my throat. The world was wavering. I held on to the wall and used it to keep myself up. When i arrived the front door looked normal and i felt some relief as i pushed forward. But that relief faded as stumbled down the hall.

I heard the sound of grunting and swords on stone. My knees hit the ground but that couldnt stop me. My clawed nails dug into the plush carpet and i crawled forward. They wanted to kill my children before but id die before i let that happen. Even in this state i couldnt be stopped. Those monsters had taken enough from me. Ill let their blood die the carpet a new color.

My tail flicked wildly behind me trying to maintain its balance.
When i entered the room there were more humans than expected. Cerastes was on the second floor of our place inside the High lords wing. Humans were piling up the stairs. Jabbing at him with swords. Ceraste was bloodied. I could only tell due to the ribs and wet cloth on his red dress shirt. He garded the door to the bedrooms, no doubt my children were there.

My presence went unrecognised and I crawled to the stairs. The feeling of carpet turn to cold stone beneath my knees barely registered. I crawled around the pool, to the base ofthe stairs. I grabbed on to the ankle of the man at the base of the stairs.

Then i snapped it. A small twist and fell to the ground in pain before he could yell i crushed his windpipe. I grabbed on to the railing and wobbled to stand. But was yanked back.

My hair was being gripped by another invade cloaked in dark garb and i went back down to my knees.

"Your woman or your children, snake?!" The man shouted his question.

"You've already experienced the weapons ability. I am more than capable of slitting her open." He threatened.

I shook my head. He would never choose me over our kids and i would hate him if he did. After all his care of his children was his only good quality.

Cerastes didn't move or speak.

"Not going to trade, are you? Well this one isnt even all dragon." He said twisting my face to try and get away.

"Get out." I yelled at him.

"This is our place now, why would we leave?" He asked "Its about time you lizard bastards got whats coming to you and we wont stop untill your all dead." He said gripping me by the hair.

Cerastes was stuck he could jump down from the stairs but then the men on the stairs would be free to storm the room with the children. I couldnt move because I was to weak from whatever poison they had put out into the air. Whatever it was it didnt seem to affect humans the way it did us.

My vision started to double and i felt myself wobbling. It was as if i was a puppet held up by strings as my head was held upright his grip on my hair. Thats why when the mans head rolled on the floor, it didnt immediately register. Only when my own head felt the floor did i realize something was amiss. Something ran past me dark brown feet clawed feet.

Vibrations rippled throught the floor. The hard crunch of bodys breaking against stone. Screams. The smell of blood and urine penatrated my nose.
I propped my self up on my elbows and looked at the lowest stair. I have to make it over there. I would worry about the next step once i got there. My progress felt extreamly slow and I couldnt move my legs. My tail dragged uselessly behind me.

I swallowed with effort. I reached out to the step and pulled myself toward it breathing heavily. Once i got there i got my elbows on it. Pins and needles spread up my arm. It was the feeling of blood rushing back to a place after it had been asleep. My face fell into the step and i felt a numbness in my cheek.

I have to get up. But my body wouldnt move. I screamed out in frustration. Trying to make my body move by sheer force of will. When i was hauled up by the arm pits. Cerastes cut up and bloodied, lifted and carried me up the stairs two steps at a time. My head against his shoulder. One hand supported the bend in my knees and tbe other my back. I scanned the area and found a tangled mess of broken bodies and the door to my room opened wide.

No. They didnt make it inside before the intruders were killed. I needed to ask Cerastes but my mind was slugish and my mouth was dry. The tounge in my moutb might as well have been turned to stone.

Inside I saw an unfamiliar figure.
He stood taller than Dante, his dark brown wings were wider than talons and gnarled looking in places. He turned when he heard us come in and i found a man who looked older. I never met him but I knew him. I knew him without needing to hear his name.

"Theres something wrong with her." Cerastes said. "Can you fix her?"

"Put her on the bed." He said putting the children down.

When Cerastes put me down, I felt the cushion bounce under me. The man hovered over and sliced his palm.

"You would likely get over the poison with time but we should spead up the regeneration."he told me. I heard his voice it was warm. comforting. Safe. I had heard it before. He placed the cut palm up to my mouth and the blood dripped in. I swallowed with difficulty. And again. And again. Until
It wasnt a struggle.

"Uncle I can give her blood." Cerastes said.

He shook his head looking down at me.

"Blood of my blood."he called me. It felt no different than the way my brothers had called me row-boat. Full of affection. What was this feeling, it made me want to cry. "My other offspring are waiting in my wing. Youll have to get better quickly if you want to be reunited with them, Rowan."
