Lizzie was on her way downstairs for breakfast when her dad called her.
"Lizzie! Breakfast!"
She rolled her eyes and smiled. "I'm right here," she said in a quiet voice.
"Oh sorry Sweet Pea. Didn't see you." He smiled and continued making french toast. "Ready for your first day at your new school?" He asked.
She shrugged. "I don't know. Why can't you and Papa homeschool me?" she asked sadly.
He sighed. "You know we can't do that. We both have work, and even then our income isn't ideal." She sighed and ate her breakfast. She was almost done when her second dad walked in. He went straight up to her dad and wrapped his arms around his waist.
"Hello honey. How did you sleep?" he asked continuing to make food.
Her papa mumbled something and buried his face in his neck. Her dad chuckled and turned the stove off.
"Lizzie finish up. You will want some time to find your first class." She scraped most of her food back into the pan and put her plate in the sink. She walked to the front door and put her bag on. Her house was simple and homey. It had wooden trim all over and wooden furniture. Since Papa was a carpenter they got a lot of stuff.
They walked out to her dad's car and got in. It was a simple 2006 subaru outback. He was on his way to his bakery. He owned Queer Cupcakes a small bakery with few employees and plenty cheer. She recently had to switch schools due to excessive bullying. She now went to "Burney's Private School". She sighed again as she watched the buildings all fly by as they went along. When they got to the school her dad walked her in to the office. Because it was still early, there were almost no kids. The few that were there were the art kids, teacher's pets, and the overachievers. She observed the kids lingering in the halls. She watched them in their own cliques, their own friend groups. She compared them to herself. While they all had unique clothing, she had plain clothes meant to blend in in big crowds. She was wearing a gray oversized sweater with a green beanie. She had muted short brown hair with muted green tips that fade beautifully. She had big, dark brown eyes with specks of green in them and her strange snake like pupils, all thin and long. She had thin heart lips that were almost always to dry.
Her dad got her all registered so she began to get out her headphones and sketchbook to draw the people around her. She was halfway through a drawing of a random kid when the halls started to fill up with kids.
Her dad came up to her and patted her on the shoulder. She lowered the headphones to listen to her dad.
"Sweet Pea, I'm gonna get out of here. Here is your class schedule. Have a good day honey." He kissed her head and left. Her eyes drew a lot of attention to her and she pulled her beanie down. She heard the bell ring and started to where she suspected class 7d would be. She realized she was lost when she entered hallway 3a. She spotted a teacher and went to ask for directions. "Excuse me," she whispered. No reaction. "Excuse me," she said a little louder.
The lady turned to her, clearly startled. "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't hear you. Do you need something?" she asked.
Lizzie nodded. "Can you show me to class 7d?" The lady nodded and started in a direction.
"Are you new?" she asked.
Lizzie nodded. "I just transferred."
The lady smiled kindly. "I assumed as much." She paused briefly. "Ah, here we are, class 7d. Have a nice rest of your day." Lizzie nodded and went in.
She was lucky and the teacher wasn't in yet so she took a seat in the back of the room next to a very large boy with short curly hair and deep eyes. In a few minutes the teacher came into the room and started the class.
"Hello class, I hope your weekend was just swell. I don't know if any of you noticed, but we have a new student with us. Her name is Lizzie. Please make her feel welcome." Lizzie sunk into her chair making herself invisible. She studied the boy next to her. He was tall and muscular. He was wearing a black leather jacket with flowers embroidered onto the chest pockets. She got out her sketchbook and started drawing in her lap.
She was almost done when the bell rang. She quickly put it away and was out of there before anyone else. She checked her schedule. She had art class next. Something she could deal with. She was on her way there when she heard laughing in front of her. Leaning into a locker whispering, were two girls. They were pointing at her and she realized they were looking at her eyes. She ducked her head and continued on her way. As she passed them she heard snickering. Someone whispered 'Lizard Girl' to her friend.
She kept on walking and made it to the art room. She sat down at an empty desk and pulled her sketchbook and kept working on her drawing of the boy. She heard someone sit down beside her and looked up. There was the most beautiful girl she had ever seen sitting next to her.
"Hi. I'm Emma."Hi, thank you for reading!
And to those who see me updating this, calm down, I'm just fixing my grammar mistakes (gosh I suck at spelling and always forget to check before I post :'D) so sorry. I will make sure to work on my other stuff too.
As always, have a great day/night/midday!
