Lizzie watched helplessly as the knife flew through the air in a long arc, before burrowing in Emma's hand, which she threw up just in time. She barely grunted and she smiled.
"You dropped this." She ripped it out of her hand and ran at Liam, who had drawn another knife.
What am I supposed to do? He is much stronger than me. I don't know why it had to be me... Her eyes kept shifting between Emma and Liam. She slid down the wall and just sat there as Liam backed Emma into a corner.Emma kept looking around trying to make sure Lizzie was safe. Liam's face was contorted with rage and he had the knife raised.
"You have been nothing but a thorn in my side this whole time. I should have gotten rid of you earlier, when you weren't a threat."
She shook her head. "I love her. More than you ever could. She loves me not you." Emma maneuvered around him and now had him in the corner. "Liam you need help. Even more than Lizzie. But at least she has a reason."
He threw his head back and laughed. "I learned this is the only way to get who you want. My dad taught me that."
Emma hesitated. "Really? Is that why you have so many chairs down here?" He nodded. Emma glanced back at Lizzie and an idea popped into her head. She threw a high kick and knocked the knife out of his hand. She pulled Lizzie up and hugged her to her body. Lizzie's facing Liam's.
She put the knife to Lizzie's neck and stared straight at Liam. He paled and froze.
"E-Emma what a-are you doing?" Lizzie whispered.
Emma shushed her. "Let us go or I will slit her throat."
He looked between the knife, Lizzie, Emma, and back at Lizzie. To make her point she pushed the point into her neck. Lizzie gasped from the slight stinging that came with it.
Liam flinched forwards.
He was internally debating whether or not Emma was lying. The hardness in her eyes suggested otherwise, but he wasn't giving in that easily.
"You love her too much to do that." Emma dug the blade in deeper and Lizzie cried out. It hurt and her neck was more sensitive than her arms.
She could see the confliction in his eyes and smiled. "What will it be Liam? Lizzie's death or letting us go?" He growled, a deep, gutteral sound. He fished into his pocket and found what he was looking for. He smiled to himself and lunged. Emma saw this and dodged easily. Lizzie however wasn't as fast. She cried out as the taser plunged into her body a second time. Both Liam and Emma rushed to catch her as she fell.
Emma got there first and scooped her little body up easily in her arms. Liam was very angry now. He was angry at Emma, at Lizzie, at himself, and at his dad for teaching him to be like this.
He looked down at Lizzie then back up to Emma.
Tears started pouring from his eyes as he slowly backed into a secret door in the wall. He would run away, then one day, he would come back for Lizzie and take care of Emma.
Emma was watching Liam from under her eyelashes as he left.
She sighed a breath of relief. She adjusted her hold on Lizzie and went through the door she and Lizzie almost made it to when they ran. She took the elevator upstairs and listened for any signs that the governor was home. When she heard nothing she took Lizzie through the door and started to try and find an exit. After a few minutes she found the back doors. She ran through them, which were open letting fresh air come inside, and out into the yard.
It had a fence but not one high enough for her not to be able to climb. She threw Lizzie over her shoulder as delicate as she could and started to climb. Some how she made it over without being caught by a house cleaner. She then began the long trek to her house.
She figured Lizzie would be safer at her house than at her own.In less than an hour, after having to stop every once in a while to readjust Lizzie, she made it to her house.
She opened the door and she was greeted by her maids as they flocked around her. "Oh miss, we were so worried."
"We saw your car leave last night, but it never came back."
"Miss, who is this?"
She silenced all of them and set Lizzie down on a couch. "This is Lizzie. She is my girlfriend and me and her just escaped our kidnapper." She held up her hand to any interjections. "I know, I know. I got kidnapped. But to be honest, he used a dart. And he made me think I was going on a date with her so."
The maids all sighed and carried on with their tasks. "Hey, Martha?"
The small girl turned to her. "Yes Miss?"
Emma looked worriedly at Lizzie. "Can you take care of her? I have to go talk to my parents about something." Martha nodded enthusiastically.
She moved to go over to Lizzie and stopped and went into the kitchen instead. She returned a moment later with a pitcher of water and a tray of grapes.
Emma smiled. Martha was a little older than them and was the kindest person, other than Lizzie, she had ever known. She had bobbed red hair and golden brown eyes.
Emma shook her head smiling and headed to her parents study, wrapping her hand along the way. She knocked respectively on the door and waited.
When she heard the familiar "Come in" she opened the door. She had something urgent to talk to them about. Her parents were surprised to see their daughter at the door and stopped what they were doing. Her father was pouring drinks and her mother was reading a book.
"What do you need Emma?" her father asked in a hard, but not unkind, voice.
She kept her composure and tried to keep a level voice. "I have something to ask you." Her mother nodded for her to continue and took a drink from her husband. "I wish to be just another member of the mafia."
Her father spit out the drink her was taking and turned back to her. "You what!?"
She flinched slightly but kept a stone face. "I want to be a normal hitman again. I want to be a body guard. I want to protect the one I love."
Her parents looked between one another. "We'll think about it. Oh and by the way, what happened to Kaden?"
Emma laughed under her breath. "He disobeyed orders." Her parents nodded and she left feeling lighter than she had in a long time. She saw that Lizzie was sitting up but rubbing her head. He had a glass of water in her hand and Martha was talking to her.
"Do you need anything else Miss?"
Lizzie smiled. "I already told you to just call me Lizzie. And no I don't." She saw Emma and tensed slightly hand going instinctively to her neck where she had cut. Emma felt her throat clench with guilt over seeing the bandage on her girlfriends neck.
"Lizzie I'm--" She lost her voice as she continued to stare at the bandage. "God, I'm so sorry. Lizzie I really am." Tears were starting to form in her eyes and she saw Martha excuse herself.
Lizzie smiled and opened her arms. Emma moved over to her. "Why aren't you mad at me?" Lizzie chuckled.
"Because I know you did what you had to to get us out of there." Emma smiled. "I love you Lizzie."
Lizzie smiled. "I love you too... Emma." Emma looked into her eyes, asking. Lizzie nodded and Emma brought her lips down to meet hers.FINALLY! Now just the epilogue!!! Thank you for reading!
