When Lizzie got home she was ready to go to bed.
"Hi honey. You're home early," her papa called from the kitchen.
"Yeah, well, I have a lot of homework. I didn't want to bother Dad anyway," she said and started up to her room.
Ruffles was sitting on her beanbag chair looking like he just had a whole bag of catnip. She went and ruffled his fur and sat down on her bed. She stared at the wall for a while thinking over her date.
What did I do wrong? She couldn't think of anything that would have made Emma run away like that. She shifted her gaze to her phone. She realized she didn't have anyone's number in it except her dads'.
She picked it up and remembered the waiter. He had given her a cookie and his number. She groaned. Why does everyone want to be around her. She pulled her hoodie off and looked in the mirror. She gently took her hat off and gasped.
She looked just like her mom, just plainer.
She decided to go to her bathroom for better lighting. Crossing the hall to her bathroom, she looked again. In this light she could see the slightest differences. Her hair was dyed at the tips and she was a lot thinner. She touched the dyed ends of her hair. It was getting quite muted, so she started to dig around under the sink. She emerged with her bin of hairdye and started to go through the colors and decided she would dye all of her hair a mix of purple and blue. She started to get all set up and wet down her hair.

She had done the top half of her hair when she was called for dinner.
"One second!" she called down. She quickly covered her hair so it would set and headed down to eat. She came down and heard both her dads in the kitchen. They were whispering about something and it sounded important.
"-both know she is rapidly losing weight. She won't eat any more than half a plate." She heard her dad start to talk and could only make out pieces.
"She'll be fine--worry-- come here." She came the rest of the way downstairs and saw her dads hugging in the kitchen. They looked up and were surprised at her hair being wrapped up.
"Are you dying your hair?" her papa asked. She nodded and sat down at the table. It was honey roasted shrimp and garlic mashed potatoes. She smiled at her papa's attempt to get her to eat. She ate as much as she could, which wasn't a lot, and went back up to finish her hair.
After she had finished, and her hair had set, she hopped into the shower to rinse out the extra dye. When she got out her short hair was an amazing blue and purple galaxy. She smiled and quickly dried it. She then got into her pajamas and got ready for bed. She was getting the rest of her homework done when her dad knocked on her open door.
"Hey sweet pea. Your hair looks great." She gestured for him to come in and he sat down on the bed. "Honey, we noticed you haven't been eating since you started highschool a year ago. We are getting a little but worried for you. Is everything ok?"
She smiled sympathetically. "I'm fine Dad. I appreciate you and Papa worrying, but everything is ok." The last part was a lie but she didn't want to worry about her more.
"Well, alright then. How was your day?" he asked trying to change the subject.
"It was good. I went on a date today."
His eyes darkened. "Who did you go out with?"
She laughed. "Dad chill. It was just Emma. She took me to the super fancy restaurant kinda by the bakery."
His jaw dropped. "Fro's?"
She smiled. "I think. It was super fancy and I felt out of place, but she tried her best to make me comfortable." Tears started welling up in her eyes. "Oh dad. I think I messed up somehow. One minute she was offering to spill food on her shirt to make me feel better and the next she is glaring at the waiter for giving me a free cookie and his number. I don't know how to fix it." A hot tear slid down her face and she quickly swiped at it.
"So the waiter gave you his number, in front of Emma?" She nodded and he laughed. "Oh sweet pea, you didn't do anything. She was jealous. He gave you his number, do you have her number in your phone?" She shook her head and he made a 'see' motion. She smiled. "She was just jealous she hadn't thought of that first. By the way I'd make sure that boy is still alive. Emma's family is no joke." She gave a confused look and he sighed. "Lizzie, her family runs the mafia in town. She has contacts that could easily take him out."
She mouthed an O. "You're still of with me maybe dating her? Even if she may be a mafia heir."          He gave a low chuckle. "Of course. But if she hurts you it won't matter what family she has." He gave an innocent smile and Lizzie laughed.
"Make sure to tell Papa." He nodded and left. She went and laid down on her bed. "She was jealous," she said out loud. "She really likes me."
