Lizzie was waiting in front of Emma as they watched all of their classmates graduate. She was digging her nails into her palms and was sure she had crescent shaped marks in them.
Emma rubbed her shoulders trying to get her to calm down.
After two and a half years of therapy she was feeling better than she had.
She hadn't heard anything from Liam. No one had. For all she knew he was in jail.
The governor had to go through a whole lot of paperwork and money to keep the story out of the news.
She and Emma had been dating the whole time and only ever fought when it came to Lizzie's mental health.
Lizzie still cringed at the sight of her scars but was learning to embrace all of her flaws. She got offered a modelling contract because of her unique eyes.
Her dads were in the audience waiting with the other graduates parents. They were of course crying their eyes out and taking all of the pictures. She heard the names getting closer and closer to hers and started to worry again.
Emma wrapped her up in her arms. After the incident, her dads basically adopted Emma into the family.
They weren't thrilled when they heard about the knife but they quickly got past it. They were planning to move in with each other after they graduated.
She was very excited to get to live with Emma, after all, she had saved her life. Her parents had agreed to her being Lizzie's bodyguard on the condition she inherits the mafia still.
"Next up, Lizzie Taylor." She gulped and headed to the stage.
She smiled sheepishly and shook everyone's hand and quickly left.
"Emma Thompson." She smiled lovingly as her girlfriend made her way across the stage with much confidence. Emma got down and gave her a kiss on the forehead. This made Lizzie blush and she turned away.
After everyone had been given a certificate and the ceremony ended Lizzie and Emma made their way to Lizzie's dads.
"Why don't you two go out to eat something? We'll be at home waiting for you."
Lizzie agreed, very suspicious, and went to turn in her cap and gown. Once Emma was sure Lizzie was gone she turned to her dads.
"Ok. I have something to tell you guys. I'm going to propose tonight." They didn't even look fazed.
"We know. But just you know one thing." He leaned in to her ear. "Mafia or not, I know where you live. Don't break my little girl's heart."
She gulped and nodded. She smiled and went to turn her stuff in as well.

That night Emma was growing more and more nervous.
Lizzie and her decided to have a picnic in a hidden field. When they finished eating, the sun was going down. Its golden glow bathed the whole field in fire. It created the perfect atmosphere. She turned to Lizzie and gulped.
This is it.
"Lizzie, I have something I want to ask you.."
She turned to her and the setting sun made her face glow. Emma blushed slightly and smiled. She stood up.
"It's something I've wanted to ask you for awhile. I wanted to do it in the best way. Now this is it." She got down on one knee and Lizzie gasped. "Lizzie Taylor, will you marry me?" Lizzie covered her mouth as Emma pulled out a ring.
She nodded vigorously. "Yes." Her voice broke on the one word filled with so much weight. Tears came to both girls' eyes as they basked in the moment. Emma stood up and put the ring on Lizzie's finger. It was a simple silver band with a shining moonstone in the middle. She pulled Lizzie up onto her feet and pulled her into a passion filled kiss.
When they broke free Emma's face was beaming with love. "I love you so much Lizzie. I hope you know that. I will protect you forever; always. My Lizard Girl."
