As they entered Lizzie studied everyone around them. Almost everyone there was : A. rich, B. dressed fancy, C. absolutely gorgeous, or D. all of the above.
She didn't fit in there, but she was glad Katy had taken her hoodie off.
The waiter led them to a secluded booth in the back where almost no one was sitting. "Can I get you two anything to drink?" Emma turned to Lizzie and held out a hand and sat her down. "I will have a cherry limeade, please." She sat down across from Lizzie and the waiter turned to her.
"A water will be fine, thank you." She smiled awkwardly. He nodded and walked off.
"I payed extra to get us a booth away from everyone. I know how you like your privacy." She smiled kindly and relaxed into her chair. "Besides, my parents are too well known here, no one would do anything to offend them, or me." She smiled innocently, making Lizzie blush.
"I wish I had a chance to change. I feel so out of place here," she said quietly, with a nervous quiver in her voice. Emma was just about to reassure her when the waiter reappeared.
"Your drinks ladies. Are you ready to order?" Emma nodded and Lizzie quickly scanned over the menu.
"I will have the french onion soup gratinee. Thank you sir." She handed him her menu and he turned to the shyer girl.
"I'll just have the strawberry salad with sunflower seeds please." He nodded and walked off again. Emma saw Lizzie scanning the people again with a conflicted look.
"Hey, don't worry about what they think. Would it make you feel better if I got food on my shirt?" Lizzie's eyes widened in shock.
"Do not do that. I don't want to embarrass you..."
Emma's eyes widened and she blushed. "I could never be embarrassed of you. I like you just the way you are." It was now Lizzie's turn to blush. She looked away and covered her face. She let a small smile dawn on her face and she looked up to see the waiter approaching. He had their food and another small plate in his hands. He sat the food down and put the extra plate in front of Lizzie. She looked and saw it had a small piece of paper with phone number on it. She looked at him and he mouthed 'Call me'. She frowned, a small blush on her ears. She looked back at the plate, and next to the number was a small chocolate chip cookie.
He smiled at her and looked at Emma, a big mistake. Emma was glaring daggers at him. He gulped. "E-enjoy your food." He rushed this out and ran to the next table.
Lizzie started to nibble on her salad and dared to look up at Emma. Her face softened when she saw Lizzie's eyes on her. Lizzie kept nibbling on her salad but couldn't get more than a quarter of it down by the time Emma was done with her soup. Emma saw how much she had eaten and frowned. Her eyes glazed over with worry. She called the waiter over and her gave her the bill. She payed but left no tip. Lizzie didn't get the chance to eat the cookie, but she didn't care. She walked out with Emma and they headed back to the school.
"That was surely an experience." Lizzie said trying to make Emma feel better. She nodded and smiled but it didn't reach her eyes. Lizzie's heart sank.
I must have done something wrong. She'll never want to hang out with me again. What will I do without Emma? Will my other friends leave me if she does?
They got to the school and they parted different ways to their classes for the rest of the day. Normally Lizzie would be excited for history, but her heart, and her head, just weren't in it. She sat down at her usual spot next to Liam.Lizzie just entered the room and his eyes automatically went to her. He tried to hide it but as soon as he saw her face he knew something was wrong. For one, she wasn't wearing her hoodie, and two her eyes looked more tired than this morning. He hoped she was alright.
When she sat down next to him he spoke. "Are you ok?"
She turned to him and he had to fight of another blush.
She gave a sad smile. "I'm fine." She turned to the front as the teacher walked in. Something was wrong and he was determined to help. After school Lizzie went to Katy to get her hoodie back. She was within walking distance of her when she was caged into a corner. Harlow and her crew were standing in front of her with hungry smiles on their faces. Like wolves that had just cornered a doe.
"Well, well. If it isn't Lizard Girl." Harlow said and laughed. "I like your outfit. It doesn't suit you though." She said with a pout. "Such a shame it was, that Emma chose you over us. I mean just look at you." She looked her up and down judgementally. "To think she wants you. She could have had anyone in the school, yet she chose you. A nobody. A weakling." She leaned in next to her ear and whispered. "A freak." Lizzie's whole world froze.
I am a freak. I will never amount to anything more. I should stop bothering the people in My. I should just disappear.
She looked up at Harlow with her head hanging. "You're right."
Harlow looked astonished. "What?"
Lizzie looked down at the ground. "Everything you said was true."
She gave a sick smile and walked up to Harlow. "But I'm done caring. I've had enough." She walked through the group of girls surrounding her and walked over to Katy.
"This won't do. Not at all." Harlow said to her friends. "I will break Lizzie Taylor. Then Emma will be mine." She smiled and walked away.Sup people! Yep I'm back at it! Turns out people are actually starting to like this, so let's make it easier to read as well! As always, I hope you have a great day/night/midday and have a great tomorrow too!
