Kagami and Chishiya's gaze met for one final time before he stepped forward and opened the double doors. The rest of the executives and quite a few militant members were already in the room and as Kagami's eyes flicked around, she found that only An was missing. As the three of them walked into the room, Kagami's heart sank as she saw what they had been called in to see. Hatter was dead. His lifeless body was laying on top of the meeting table and all of the chairs had been pulled away, leaving the executives to stand around aimlessly. Things were very bad and now Kagami knew exactly why Niragi was feeling as confident as he was. He had won and they both knew it now.
Kagami's eyes moved to Chishiya who was too busy examining Hatter. Part of her couldn't believe that Chishiya was right. Aguni was certainly going to take control of the Beach now. But, as she looked to the large man, she found that his eyes seemed to be empty as he did nothing but stare at Hatter's body. Only about a minute of silence had past before the doors opened again and Tatta followed by An rushed into the room. Immediately An moved towards Hatter's body, her eyes filled with disbelief as was everyone else's.
"Apparently he couldn't clear the game." Tatta explained to the silent room. "The maintenance team just happened to find him in Shinjuku while we were filling up with gas." Kagami watched Tatta with a frown, there was no doubt that he was telling the truth but something felt off about the whole ordeal. As much as she had her negative opinions of Hatter, it was very unlikely that he would have been killed during a game. Especially when it wasn't even the Ten of Hearts. Kagami had barely noticed An had moved closer to the body until Niragi spoke, breaking the silence that had once again filled the room,
"Hey, do me a favor and keep your hands off him." He said, walking through the group and towards Aguni, "You're obsessed with dissecting things."
As Niragi took his place at Aguni's side, Kagami tried desperately to avoid his gaze that was locked onto her. She already knew the look that would have been in his eyes: a look of victory. In Niragi's mind she guessed that he figured this would be the turning point that would have her come back to him. But Kagami wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of meeting his gaze. Instead, she watched as An examined something on Hatter's chest, not daring to touch the body as she did so,
"This is from a bullet." She mused, "Did the game he was playing involve guns?"
"Seems like it." Tatta answered immediately, "Apparently people around the game area heard gunshots." Kagami's eyes looked to Chishiya who straight away shook his head causing Kagami to nod once. They both agreed that clearly something was off about this.
"Holy shit! Looks like he should have brought the militant corp along with him." Niragi once again spoke with a mocking tone and this time Kagami couldn't help but shoot him a glare that he simply responded to with a wink.
"Well, this is going to send The Beach into chaos." Kagami said seriously, "I imagine someone has a plan for damage control?" She asked, looking around at the founding members in particular.
"Nobody says a word about this, understood?" It was Mira who spoke but seemed as though she was directing her words at everyone before her sight fell onto Kagami, "Kagami's right, we don't want people freaking out." Kagami couldn't help but roll her eyes at Mira who immediately looked away. Before Kagami had a chance to berate her, Kuzuryu stepped forward and said something even more idiotic,
"I'll step in as leader since I'm number two." He didn't bother to look at anyone as he spoke and while he was number two, Kagami couldn't see him as a good leader. As she looked around the room, the only person she could see who would be a remotely decent leader was An and she was way too caught up in her research to lead.
"Wait a second, shouldn't the strongest person be the leader?" It was Niragi that was asking the question and it was clear to Kagami that he had a point to make.
