Shadow and Rouge had returned home. Home, a place Shadow hadn't felt comfortable in for months, and their current circumstances only made that worse.

He collapsed onto the bed, his hands covering his face.

"I can't believe it." He muttered. "I can't believe I let this happen."

"There was nothing you could have done, hun." Rouge spoke, a sympathy in her voice that did anything but reassure him.

"But there was! If I was paying attention, I could have helped him!" He yelled. "I could have saved him! But... I couldn't. I failed him."

"You didn't fail him. If he has any hope, it's in you."

"But I don't know where he is! What if I can't find him? What if I can't save him? What if I lose him?" His initial anger dissipated into guttural dread. "I can't lose him, Rouge. I can't."

"And you wont, Shadow. I know for a damn fact that you will save him." She rubbed his back, trying to calm him.

"I fucking neglected him for weeks, let him get kidnapped and hurt, and then let them take him when I was literally only a couple feet away from him! For all I know, he could be gone. They could have already killed him, and I'll never see his face again." He ranted. "And after I have already failed Maria! I— I... I'm letting it happen again."

"Listen, Shadow. You will find him, and you will save him. You know you can, and I know you can. It's not too late." She said, sure of herself. "I think I have a good idea as to where he is. Let's go save your boyfriend."

"Hey handsome~" Sonic's ears twitched. This was the first voice he'd heard since Shadow's, which felt like years ago. That shock gun must have got him good.

"Who are you? What do you want?" He asked groggily, not understanding the true weight of the situation.

"G.U.N let me have you. I can do whatever I want with you." The voice chuckled.

"W-What's that supposed to mean?" Sonic pushed himself back, trying to make a distance between him and the voice.

"It means you're mine. You obey me." The voice untied the blindfold covering Sonic's eyes, revealing himself. It was a human.

He roughly grabbed Sonic's chin, forcing him into a kiss. Sonic squirmed and thrashed, but seeing as his hands and feet were bound together, there wasn't much he could do.

"What the hell are you doing?" Sonic cried. "Get off of me! Leave me alone!"

The man tied Sonic's previous blindfold in his mouth, repurposed as a gag. Sonic couldn't do anything. He was helpless. He couldn't expect Shadow to know where he was, hell, he didn't even know we're he was.

All he could do was endure this and pray that Shadow would find him.

—————

"G.U.N has a base hidden in a nearby cliff. I think that's the least predictable place for him to be. We shouldn't even know it exists."

"How would we know which one it is? I don't want to destroy any... famous landmarks or whatever."

"It's quite amusing to watch you try to stay calm." Rouge chuckled. "I know for a fact you don't care what it takes to find Sonic, regardless of what 'landmarks' you destroy."

"You know me painfully well."

"That's my job." She smirked. "I think this is the cliff. Do your thing."

Within seconds, Shadow had the faux cliff crumbled, revealing an entrance for the two.

"Look for him everywhere you can."

Shadow set off to the cell units and windowless rooms, only visible from the outside. He had never been here; he didn't know where to look. He tried to focus on the sound of his shoes gliding against the linoleum

Over the screams, he heard something different. His ears twitched as he followed the noise. It was light crying. Familiar crying. His eyes widened as he rushed towards the sound, still remaining careful not to get caught.

He stopped dead in his tracks. This was the room.

He leaned against the door, trying to identify movement on the other side before quietly opening the door.

"No, no, please go." Sonic shook, curled up in a corner of the room. "Haven't you done enough?"

Shadow stared in shock. What the hell had they done? This wasn't Sonic. The light, the optimism, all squashed.

Shadow tentatively grazed his lover's quills, only making him flinch, curling in on himself even further.

"I'm not going to hurt you."

Sonic gasped and looked up, tears streaming from his eyes.

"Shadow?" His voice cracked. "Chaos, how did you...?"

Shadow solemnly wiped his peach cheek, trying to rid the onslaught of tears under his eyes.

"Yeah." He smiled sadly. "It's me."

Sonic threw himself in his arms, holding on as tight as he could.

"He- He touched me, and hurt me, and... I tried to stop him-"

"It's alright... You're safe now. We can talk about this when we get you home." Shadow pet Sonic's quills. "And believe me when I say I will kill whoever hurt you."
