I checked my watch for the fifth time in the same minute. "It's three 0 five. Where is he?" I worried, glancing my eyes around the horizon.
"He'll be here!" Pope said putting the last card board box of food in the boat. JJ was standing surprisingly calm by the truck— and Kie was beside me radiating off the same anxious energy I was, it was unlikely for John B to be ever late especially at a time like this, anytime he was late before there's been complications.
"He'll be here." Kie repeated trying to calm her nerves.
"Wait do you guys hear that?"
I twisted around, and sighed dreadfully, everytime someone asked those six words I knew what that meant, Cops. The sirens approached us coming to a stop right before the dock, "Start the boat." I whisper sharply to JJ. He nods and jogs over to go untie the boat, "Hurry, jay!"
"I'm trying!" He called back through gritted teeth. My hands sweater profusely as the door to the Cop car opens, I waited to see shoupe but instead my glaze meets my brothers.
"Oh my God," I chuckle out, a slow smile growing on my face. I jumped off the dock running over to his open arms, he embraces me and I squeeze him tightly.
"Told you I'd make it back to you." He mumbles into my hair.
I smile stammering back, "A cop car, Really Bee?" He shrugs his shoulders, "shoupe lent it too me," he said with a playful smile, oh yeah, he leant it. We laughed at his antics, "I'm just glad you made it."
"Yeah B it was a close one."
"It wasn't easy bro, but I got the phantom for ya, and she runs like she was made yesterday." JJ bragged, tossing the keys at our favorite fugitive. He catches it but his eyes were locked on the boat, searching for something that seemed to be missing.
"Where's Sarah? She said she'd meet me here." His voice laced with disappointment. I placed my hand on his slouched shoulders. "We haven't seen her."
"I'm not leaving without her." He stated with a tone that no one wanted to argue, but if he wasted any more time the cops were going to have this placed swarmed. He had to leave with or without her.
"We all care about Sarah B but you have to leave now." I said sternly, except he wasn't listening to a word that was coming out of my mouth. I glanced over to JJ, maybe if he said something it would snap some sense into the boy.
"Hey, JB listen to me." JJ grabbed his shoulders, "I know you feel bad for leaving, but there's no time, man. You've got plenty of gas, plenty of food. Once you get around that point, it's a straight shot across the sound to Dismal Swamp, okay? Once you get there, lay low, alright? Hang out for a couple of weeks and then go overland, cross the boarder at Brownsville, you got that?"
