"SO he always like that?" I asked abruptly, JJ aimlessly walked beside me and he scrunched his face. "Who?"

"You're dad."

He took his hands out his pockets, "basically, I don't really remember how he was with my mom." He shrugged, "but the few times when I do. I knew he was happy. He still had a temper but definitely not as bad." He answered shifting between his two feet.

"What about you, do you remember your mom?"

I thought back a bit to the few memories I had with her the very few. "It's spotty. she left when we were three so mostly I remember like tiny details."

"You ever feel angry about her leaving?" He followed up.

I snickered lightly. "Yeah actually, I think that's all I feel now." He looked at me with an understanding smile.

"So what's next?" He asks, I briefly glanced at him confused. "I mean, when we get back to the house DCS is still gonna be on your ass. your just gonna run for the rest of your life?"

"I don't want to but I will," I say, "John B is the only family I have left and if I lose him I'd loose everything." Again he smiled flashing those dimples I admired so much. "You're not gonna lose him," he reassured. "We both know JB and he would never leave you." He added.

All the sudden he shouted out like a little kid,"Ice cream!" my head snapped up to the truck a few feet in front of us and I grinned.

"Cmon!" I said eagerly taking his wrist and running to the singing machine. We were first in line and I was practically bouncing on my toes. Ice cream was my favorite dessert only psychos don't like icecream.

"Hi. what can I get you?" The woman
behind the counter asks.

"Two mint chocolate chips, please."

She nodded and I went to my pocket to pull out the money and when I looked up JJ had already handed his over his wallet. "JJ!" I huffed, he just looked back at me amused. "I wanted to pay!"

He pouted taking his change back. "sorry. too slow" I rolled my eyes with a goofy smile on my lips grabbing my ice cream and moving away from the line.

I took a lick off the ice cream. "mhm"

"That good huh?" He asked laughing at me.

I nod, taking another bit. The beach was on the other side of the sidewalk so I followed JJ onto the sand, "wanna walk the shore?"

"Sure." I said simply. he lead me on the beach and started walking past the dunes. The beach was pretty secluded you would think living on an island would mean people were on the beaches all the time but surprisingly, that wasn't the case most people get tired of doing the same thing all day.

as we walked up to the water the salty aroma hit my nose, I took in a deep breath with a soft smile looking off into the distance. It was perfect Beach day the sun was blazing, but the ocean made a gentle breeze. JJ stood beside me in silence both of us just admiring the sunset, the sky was painted with oranges and yellows and even pinks were swirled in with the clouds.

"It's so beautiful," I whispered.

"Do you wanna go for a swim?"

I broke my eyes from the water, "hell, no!" I chuckled, "i don't even have a bikini on."

He shrugged with a smirk, "so?" He inched toward. "JJ." I warned. he placed his cup of ice cream down on the sand and I knew better then too stand still. I dropped my book bag off my shoulders sticking my ice cream cup on top of it.
