The Twinkie was filled with laughter as we pulled up to the lawn. "this was good Kie, one of the best birthday I had in awhile." I smile at her appreciatively.
I smiled in return and her eyes trail behind me. "It's not over just yet." She spoke softly parking the car.
What could she had been talking about I thought, I scrunch my face in confusion and I snapped my head in that direction. My eyes brightened when I saw the broken fairy lights were now fixed and precisely hung up around the trees lighting up the porch and a long banner was pinned across the front of the house with my name painted on it.
"what the..." I mumble. "Kie you did all this?" I said in awe, she climbed out the car and I did the same. "Not exactly." Her tone high pitch with a hint of humor.
I stepped closer following the trail of freshly picked white flowers but they weren't just any flowers the closer I looked and the more I smelled the more they reminded me of something.
Jasmine flowers freshly picked from a jasmine tree.
I stare down at them with amazement a growing smile blazing my lips. The last time I had smelt a jasmine flower was the day I went on my first date with who I thought was the man I was gonna marry, my smile falter just a bit at the thought of boy and the relationship I had ruined.
I blew a breeze of air out of my lips glancing at kei with a appreciative yet sad smile. "How'd you know these we're my favorite?"
she smiles ever so softly, so soft I can barely see her dimples. "I didn't." She replied, drawling my attention with hee eyes to in front of us.
"Jay what are you doing here?"
I stood there dumbfounded, confused and suprised. I took sight of his wavy blonde hair drooping down to his eyebrows, admiring how good he looked under the moon light in a nice button down shirt and jeans.
My eyes were fixated on his tan face holding my gaze with his captivating eyes. "You thought I'd miss your big day, we're officially the same age. " he mutters, the corner of his eyes crinkles and for the first time in months I see his smile.
He takes a few steps closer and I hesitantly move along with him our body's pulling each other closer like a magnetic, more like it was programmed into our heads to be close to one and other.
I stand in front of him my converse nearly touching his boots and I pull my face up to the sky getting a rush of emotions and before I could stop it my eyes welled up with thick tears.
And to my surprised he begins talking.
"I fucked up and I was a jerk and instead of being there for you i pushed you away because-" he let's out a shaky breath. "I was terrified of losing you." He whispers. My eyes snapped to his vulnerable ones and he takes a loose strand of my hair and pulls it behind my ear.
"Please forgive me" He said softly searching my eyes.
My brain tangles with the idea and I stand there in disbelief, is this real right now?
"How can I not." I chuckle through tears and he leaned down so carefully. Something I learned this summer is that sometimes time isn't enough, one day your spending your summer with your brother and best friends and the next your praying every night that he survived despite what everyone says. If I stand here and push away the one boy who I love when I know our hearts our interlinked.
he chuckles shinning those beautiful dimples I always love to see. he closes the space between us and gently pressed his soft lips on on mine. one of his arms were holding me while the other was holding onto my cheek, I could never get used to the feeling he gave me.
