(James's POV)

It had been a busy day. As soon as he returned to the penthouse he showered then he made calls to his human contacts to find out everything and anything he could about his mate. He recieved all the information by carrier two hours later. He was sitting in the study at the desk going over the report. Cassandra Maia Stone. Born October 14th, 2000 in Texas. Grew up in a trailer park. Father unknown. Mother, Debbie Stone. Deceased. Straight A student. No other family mentioned. Won a scholarship but postponed due to mothers death. Traveled to australia for a year. Volunteered for wildlife rescue. Worked odd jobs and lived in a youth hostile. Moved to the lower east side of Manhattan, New York and now studies at university. He looked up her address on google maps. He was horrified by what he saw. It was no place for her. No place for a queen.
He leaned back in his chair and took a drink of his bourbon.
Not that it mattered. She would be leaving it behind her soon enough. His plan was already in motion. He knew of her plans for the evening. One of the calls he made was to the club they were going to. With in an hour he was a VIP. Shaking his head while thinking that humans were still so predictable after centuries of evolution. All you had to do was throw money or something shiny and valuable and they were all to happy to do you bidding.
The black suit pants and white button down shirt was suitable for club wear in the VIP section he thought while rolling up the sleeves to his elbow. No jacket or tie. The point was to blend in as much as possible.
A knock sounded at the door.
'Sir?'
James turned in the chair to see his driver in the doorway.
'Yes?'
'Are you ready, sir?'
James looked at the clock on the wall. More time passed then he thought.
'Yes. I'll be down in a minute.'
'Yes sir.'
'Wait' James stalled the other man.'What is your name?'
'Joshua, sir. Joshua Evans.'
'How long have you worked for me?'
'I've been your driver, sir for the past five years.'
'And you know abou my brother and what we are?' James noted that when the man picked him and his brother up after James killed the vile man who touched his mate, he didn't bat an eyelash or seem panicked.
The man stood taller and looked away uncomfortably.
'Yes sir. My employer informed me. As well as the rest of us that work for..er...the fae society when you arrive. After we are recruited we are then briefed of our...specific clients.'
'How did you take the news?'
Joshua shifted his weight from what foot to another. James could hear the mans heart jump a beat.
'I was skeptical at first. I served in the army for thirty years. I've seen things before but never expected this. But after I was honarably discharged from the army I was recruited. It's a fine job and pays well.'
James looked at the man. He looked about fifty yet looked fit and healthy. Humans had such a short life span.. About 5'9. Looking back James had never seen the mans facial expression change. Perfectly stoic. Not that James had ever given humans much thought. But considering his mate was one it was maybe a good idea to brush up on facts and maybe get tips.
'You've never asked any questions before. Did you ever get curious about the fae world?'
Joshuas brown eyes that were creased in the corners with age widened a bit.
'No sir. it's a good job with good money. It's not my job to ask. Also, if I may? I've learned the less you know with some things the better. '
James smirked.
'Smart man, Joshua. But while I'm out I need you to do something.'

Half an hour later James was dropped off at the club. The Inferno. He shook his head again at the humans lack of creativity as he walked past the front of the line of people and past the bouncer. The interior of the club was exactly what he expected. Black granite bar tops. Wrapped around the room in a square. A spacious dance floor lit up with flame lights flickering underneath. The walls were dark red and burned orange. One of the bouncers led him to an elevator reserved for VIP only. He seated himself and was given a menu by one of the waitresses. Without looking at it he tossed it aside on the black leather sofa next to him and ordered a bourbon neat. The waitress fluttered her fake eyelashes at him with a flirtatious smile before leaving.
James rolled his eyes. Cassandra should be here soon. He gave Joshua a picture of Cassandra he had that came with the file about her. His instructions were to park and watch for her. He was supposed to give him a call as soon as she was in sight. The music was loud. Where he sat it in the VIP room the music would be muffled to human ears. His wolf was pacing. Eager to see her and felt restless and agitated with so many humans around. His phone rang in his pocket.
'Yes?'
'Sir. She's here.'
'Good. You may go.' James clicked end then had one if the bouncers go get her. He showed him the same picture of her on his phone. James stood and walked out of the room to the glass balcony that looked over the dance floor below. The waitress came back with a tray in hand with his drink.
'Can I get you anything else, sir?' Her perfume was heavy and choking him. She was standing far too close. His wolf was unsheathing his claws in aggression. Wanting Cassandra's scent.
'No. you may go.' He dismissed her coldly without even a glance. His eyes scanned the crowd for her. The music was playing, people were grinding and dancing against one another. Voices clashing and chatting loudly over the music. All of that faded when he spotted her. His wolf even grew still before letting out a howl.
Her and her friend were hooked together by the arm. Her friend was pulling her toward the bar. They sat
on the bar stools and ordered a drink. Cassandra looked uncomfortable. Maybe she wasnt a 'people person.' Jame's smiled. Could she be anymore perfect? He just watched them where he stood. He saw her friend make her do two shots before chasing it with a beer of some sorts. Her face scrunched up in disgust it such an adorable way.
He could see she was loosening up. A smile appeared on her face and she was talking to her before her friend led her to the dance floor. They swayed and jumped to the music. He saw a man looking at them on the left. He watched as he went toward them while moving his body to the music. Honing in and whispered into the womans ear. The woman smiled and after looking at Cassandra with a shrug and a smile. He saw Cassandra's shrug back before teasingly pushing her friend toward the man. The couple moved away while dancing.
Cassandra turned and walked off the dance floor. She made her way to the bar and got a drink. Him and his wolf tensed while watching her walk out a side door leading outside. In a blur too quick for anyone to see he was following her.
