(Cassi's POV)

Anger was putting it mildly how she was feeling right now. She watched him make their plates as she sat there. Looking down at the food she had no appetite for made her angry. But she felt dejected at the same time. She knew she'd never see Amy again. Never be able to go back to her school. Her future...her life was no longer her's to control. Her heart felt like it was going to break for more reasons then one. Sadness and it was literally banging so hard in her chest right now. His hand came across the table to hold her gently.
'You're alright, Cassandra. Breathe.'
Looking into his eyes. Seeing the man who took from her just pissed her off.
'I'm never going home again, am I?'
He sighed. Then she saw a look come across his face. Like he was considering something.
'Maybe you can if you give me something in return.'
'What's that?'
'If you promise to try. Try to be my partner. Try to be happy here. Try to fill the role as my queen and see me as your king. Try and see this place as your new home. If you can do that for...six months I'll let you go back and visit. As long as you also promise me you'll come back with me.'
Was that all? That laugh escaped her, was empty.
'Who would I call when I got there? Where would I go?' Standing, ready to fight. 'You fucked everything up for me! You took everything from me. I had a life! A future I was looking forward to. Plans!'
He continued to sit calmly. Holding his wine glass while staring at her.
'Sit down, Cassandra.' Again he was talking to her like she was a misbehaving child. 'You need to calm down and eat.'
'I'm not hungry. If you'd bothered to ask. But you don't. You just do and take!'
Before she could blink she found herself against the wall behind her. He growled softly as his nose skimmed her hair. Then the side of her face, her throat.
'Careful, love. Do not provoke me.
If I just took, you would be on that bed.' He jerked his chin toward the bed 'You, on your hands and knees and me, mounting you, dominating you.' His voice dropped to a whisper. His lips skimmed from her ear then after meeting his eyes she saw what could only be described as an intense lust from the picture he just painted. His lips were warm and soft as they attacked hers. His hand came up to hold her still when she began to struggle. His tongue invaded her mouth. Cassi tried to resist and hold on to the anger. But, God, he tasted good. Felt good. Heat bloomed and spread in her body.
He pulled back and looked at her flushed face before chuckling.
'You are hungry, little one. Just not for food.' He toyed with her lip. Now swollen. The next kiss he gave her was more gentle. With what she had left she pinched the edge of his bottom lip between her teeth and bit. Hard. He jerked back with a low growl. Looking at her in stunned shock. He touched his lip and saw the blood on his fingertips. She went to run past him but he caught her. He laughed as he hoisted her over his shoulder and threw her down on the sofa.
'Rule number one, sweetheart. Never run from a predator.' He sat down next to her. Then before she could get away she found herself over his knee. The sharp smack against her bottom stunned her. She gasped and looked over her shoulder.
'What the hell?!'
In answer he smacked again.
'What are you doing?' She tried squirming away.
He smacked again.
'Stop it!'
'Are you going to behave?'
'Fuck you!'
He smacked her again and again.
Her bottom stung. The strength was out of her. She lost count of how many swats she received before she decided to surrender.
'Okay! Okay!'
'Okay, what?' His voice was low and husky yet held humor.
'I'll...be good.'
A couple seconds went by before she was swung up and found herself on his lap.
'For future, I'll gladly do that again.'
He was smiling victoriously. He kissed her again, softly.
She pushed off him and he let her go. Feeling...humiliated, confused, yet the ache between her legs indicated she liked it too.
'D-don't touch me, again.'
He stood up and cupped her face.
'You're mine to touch, Cassandra. Faster you learn that, the easier it'll be for you.'
She jerked away.
'No. I'm not yours. I never will be.'
'Shall we test that?' He smiled again.
All knowing. 'I can hear your pulse going frantic. Your cheeks are flushed. Your eyes are dilated.' He grabbed her waist and brought her back to him. Whispering in her ear. He nipped her earlobe before soothing it with his tongue. 'I can smell you too. I bet if I reach down to your core, you'll be wet.'
Shoving herself away she quickly locked herself in the bathroom. Sinking down against the wall she hugged her knees. Humiliation, shame, and want were going to war inside her head. Letting the tears finally come, she covered her mouth and let the sobs out. She didn't know how long she sat there. It wasn't until she heard a knock that it startled her into cowering back even further in her corner.
'Cassandra.' He sounded concerned.
Willing herself to calm down and her voice to be steady.
'Go away!'
'Come out. Or do I have to come in?'
'Can't you just leave me, for a moment? At the very least you owe me that.' Tears refilled her eyes and spilled down. Before she could react she heard the knob of the door jingle then break off with a clatter. It swung open and he was standing there. He stood there for a second. She kept her face hidden in her knees. She felt him hunker down to her on the floor. His hand stroked the top of her head.
'Love, it's okay.'
'No it's not okay!'
'Just try. Things will be better. You'll grow to love it here. It'll just take time.'
Gathering herself, she sniffed and raised her face.
'Why me? Just tell me, why me?'
She saw his face soften.
'You are my destiny. I felt it the moment I saw you.' He paused before lightly stroking her arm. 'Don't you feel anything when I touch you?'
Thinking about it, she did feel something. Like last night. It was a little electric shocks. Watching as the little hairs on her arm stood where he touched. He must have noticed too.
'See? It's your body responding to mine.'
'That's just physical attraction. Chemistry. Anyone could have it.' She argued.
'But it's more than that, isn't it?'
It didn't take long for her to decide not to encourage him, and keep the little shocks to herself.
'No.'
He looked disappointed. 'Maybe it's because you're human. It'll just take some time, you'll see.'
Her back slumped against the wall.
He stood suddenly.
'Come eat. You'll feel better. Then maybe I can take you on a tour of the castle.' Gripping her arm gently, he pulled her up. Guiding her back to her seat then sitting in his own chair. Cassi immediately reached for the wine glass and downed it. With amusement in his eyes he refilled her glass.
Looking at the food again, she decided she did need to eat. She did need her strength. Lifting the fork she ate what she could while feeling his eyes on her the whole time. When she couldn't manage anymore she drank more wine. She was on her fourth glass when she started to feel more relaxed. Wanting to avoid him, she picked up the bottle and left the table.
Seeing the french doors across the room, she opened them to find a balcony overlooking a big quart yard.
She didn't know why, but looking at the scene in front and below she thought of her mother. Thinking how she would adore this. She deserved something like this, when she was alive. Her mother may have made some mistakes but she did her best. Raised her right. Despite the losers she tried to go out with, she was a good woman and mother. She knew she tried to find a father figure for her growing up, but could never bring herself to love or settle with them. Cassi found herself holding the ring on the chain around her neck that was tucked under her dress. She was grateful the man…vampire that bit her earlier didn't break it.
'What is that?'
Jumping at the sound of his voice next to her. He was leaning against the stone balcony wall, watching her.
'What?' She asked, dropping the ring and taking a drink straight from the wine bottle.
'What is that around your neck?' He asked again pointing with his finger while holding his glass of wine.
'My mother gave it to me when I was young.' Her eyes widened at a thought.
'My stuff? Can I hope to get my belongings that are in New York?'
He paused before answering.
'Yes. Was there something particular?'
She nodded. 'My photo album. Please? I just want that. It's the only photos I have left of my mom.'
He nodded. 'I'll have it delivered tomorrow.'
'Thank you.'
She looked down. Questions started to form in her head. She just didn't know how to ask. She even wondered if she really wanted to know.'
'You can ask.'
She looked up at him stunned.
He smirked.
'Your face is an open book, Cassandra. Your emotions are plain as if you were voicing them.'
Thinking it over quickly, what did she have to lose? Taking another drink, she stabbed on.
'Leon?'
She saw him stiffen. Anger on his face.
'What about him?'
'What did you do to him, exactly?'
He shrugged. 'I killed him.'
'Yes, but how? Elise seemed to know and didn't care. How long has she been in your back pocket?'
Now looking bored he set the glass down on the balcony ledge
before putting his hands In his pockets.
'I killed your boss because he threatened you. Put his hands on you. From what I gathered, he was a useless waste of space, anyway. After you left that night of you confronting him, I dragged him to a nearby abandoned building. I ripped him a part. Or my wolf and I did. Then I set the building on fire to cover my tracks."
She was speechless. She really didn't know how to feel about that. What do you say to someone who just confessed they murdered someone in such a brutal and detailed way?
'Elise?'
'There is a faction of humans that know about us. It's a balance. We respect your laws, be discreet, and bargain. In return your kind keeps our secret. Her and the doctor, I knew their ancestors, as did my father.'
She quietly thought about the information she was just told.
'You said, "Or my wolf did." Your wolf...are you in control when you...turn?'
Smiling, pleased she brought his other side up. His wolf stirred. Pleased as well.
'Yes, mostly. Sometimes he takes over.'
'So, you're sort of the same...being?'
'For the most part. Sometimes when things get overwhelming, like the first night I kissed you, he wanted to take over but I willed him to retreat. But when that vampire bit you tonight he took over.'
Leaning forward, her student brain was fascinated.'It's instinct. Impulsive.'
'Essentially.' He shrugged.
She wanted to know more. Part of her disgusted that she was interested but the other half couldn't be contained. Setting the bottle down she asked,
'Can I...see? Again, I mean. Your wolf?'
Smiling with glee, more then happy to show her. He started to unbutton his shirt when she stopped him.
'What are you doing?'
Laughing he continued. 'You've seen horror movies. I don't get to keep the clothes. Besides nothing you haven't seen already.'
Face flaming hot she turned her back toward him. She heard the bones shifting and cracking. Then a low growl. Turning she saw him. Now a giant black wolf again. The bright green eyes glowing. She sat down on the wrought iron bench behind her. Watching the wolf stalk toward her. Just sitting, the wolf was looming over her. She'd say it was three times the size as a regular normal wolf. She watched in both apprehension and in wonder as he bent and placed his big head on her lap. On instinct she stroked the fur. Soft growls came from his chest.
'It's ironic.' She found herself speaking.
The wolf looked up at her.
'Ironic, I was studying animals...and here I am. Petting a wolf.'
A choking bark came from him. She didn't know if it was because it was easier to talk to the wolf or because she was so enthralled, but she made a decision.
'Okay, James. I'll try.'
Lips pulled back and showed a mouth full of sharp teeth. Thinking that was supposed to be a smile had her laughing.
