James POV)
He held his Cassandra in his arms. The smell of the sedative was working its way through her blood stream. She was unconscious within seconds. He heard her heart slow and felt her body relax. Finally! He had her now. It was time to take her home.
'Deals a deal.' The detective reminded him, breaking him from his mental plans. He looked from Cassandra's sleeping face to the detective. He knew her and the Doctor's ancestors. If he looked closely they very much resembled some of them.
'Yes.' He agreed. 'You kept your part now I will fulfill mine.' He gave a loud whistle. Joshua pulled up in the car. James turned and carefully placed Cassandra in the back seat. Turning back he dialed Sylvia's phone number. She answered on the third ring.
'Already bored with your new play thing?' She sneered.
He just cut to the chase not bothering to play her game.
'I need a favor.'
'Oh do you really? I'm shocked. What's in it for me?' Her voice dripped sarcasm.
'What do you want?'
She hummed as she thought for a few moments.
'I want a drop of your mate's blood.' She finally spoke.
James straightened in surprise.
'Why?'
'Does it matter? It won't hurt her much and I'm only asking for a drop.'
'It matters if you have some sinister intentions with it.' Suspicion and anger rolled through him.
She cackled. 'What if I want to use her as my next face, here in the human world? Not here in Manhattan, of course, but one never knows.'
He knew witches would use humans personal effects to do a spell for illusions. To make witches look like the human they're impersonating. Why she'd want his mate's he didn't know. He knew that Sylvia would be putting her and her coven in peril if they did anything to harm his mate.
'That's the reason?'
'Maybe. You're the one calling for a favor, oh mighty alpha.'
He rolled his eyes. He didn't have time for this.
'Fine. I'll send it to you at the restaurant. Have one of your minions ready. I don't have much time.'
'Deal. So what's the favor?'
'I need you to do a spell that can wipe someone's mind of someone else's existence.'
'Now you have me intrigued. Who is it?'
'Her name is Amy Strode. I'll text the address. I need her mind fully erased. As in all traces in her mind and home are gone of my mate.'
'Why do you need me? Can't you just kill her or make her a slave? It sounds simpler.'
He looked at the detective.
'I made another deal that prevents that.'
Sylvia sighed. 'Fine.' She hung up. He replaced the brand new phone Joshua picked up this morning for him in his pocket. He went back to the car and pricked Cassandra's finger with his cufflink. He watched as the drop bled on his handkerchief.
'When you come back, take this to The Cauldron. Sylvia will know what to do with it.' He instructed Joshua while handing him the folded fabric.
'Yes, sir.'
Turning back to the doctor and the detective.
'Okay. It's being taken care of.'
Doctor Kruse spoke up.
'She will be frantic when she wakes. My advice is to try to keep her calm. Too much stress after what she has been through can bring on a mental break. In more ways then one.' He paused to hand him a small bottle and a syringe kit. 'When she wakes up, give her one of those.' He pointed to the bottle. 'They will calm her. If she should wake before you arrive home, give her another shot. The syringe in the kit is already filled and ready.'
'I think I'll manage.' Irritated, someone was telling him what to do with his mate. But taking the kit and bottle he placed it inside his suit jacket pocket.
'Until next time, Mr. Villr.' The detective waved and got in her car with the doctor. James turned and got in the car with his woman. His woman. He smiled as he pulled her against him. Her head on his chest as she lay on her back. He crossed his arms over her chest to keep her steady as the car moved. His arm burned like a bitch where she cut him with silver but it was already healing. One of very few things humans actually got right with his kind. Silver could wound and even kill depending where they were struck.
James smiled again. He was proud she used her intelligence and fought back, but he'd have to rein her in. He couldn't look weak in front of his people.
He had to show she was his queen but that he was still king.
They just had to get to the portal then they'd be home. He was excited to show her her new home. Introduce her to her new pack. Start a life with her. Sure she would be scared and maybe pissed when she woke but eventually she'd settle. They would arrive at the portal in a little over two hours. He stroked her hair, her hands, fingers, and wrists. Her wrists! He saw the bruises around her wrists where he grabbed her last night. He would have to remember to be more careful next time. He lightly kissed the injuries and crossed them over her chest. This whole journey he was making plans and thinking of what needed to be done when they arrived. He'd see she was taken care of. Then catch up on what he had missed over the last few days.
They finally arrived at the edge of the forest. He got out and went closer. He cut his palm and let it fall on the soil. A golden wall shot up from the ground. Only visible to fae's eyes. To a human right now he would just look crazy. The wall was the barrier between the human world and the fae world. Only blood from a fae can activate it. He turned and picked up Cassi. Cradling her, he sent Joshua a nod of farewell then walked through the wall.On the other side he was still surrounded by forest. But this was more wild and natural. He heard the wood nymphs giggling out in the distance. Tiny Fairies glowed in the distance like fireflies. A small group of his warriors were waiting for him. Twelve. Six in their human form and the other six in their wolf form. They rushed to him. They bowed and greeted him.
'Welcome home your majesty. Congratulations on finding your mate.' His third in command, Rexton, said while rising to his feet.
'Thank you. Where is my brother?' 'He is waiting at the castle for you, you're highness. There has been commotion since he brought back news of our new luna.' Rexton's eyes traveled to the woman in question. Who was still sound asleep in his arms. James saw how his eyes strayed too long on her for his liking. He gave a warning snarl. Rexton and the rest of the men looked down and bared their necks in submission.
'I expect a full briefing on the way back.'
'Yes sir.'
continued to walk the dirt path. The castle was about an hour out with their supernatural speed.
'Prince Jonathan came back a couple days ago. He announced to all of us that you had found your mate at last and were bringing her here.'
Rexton paused for a moment before continuing. 'Naturally we were all thrilled for you, your majesty, but when he announced your mate was human, some of the pack did not take it well. There has been tension and a rift between the pack. One side is thrilled for you and the other is questioning your leadership for the fact you accepted a human as your mate.'
James paused. 'And you Rexton? You and your comrades? Where do you stand?'
Rexton at his full height. 'We stand with you, my lord. You and your mate.'
James continued walking. He could see the torches signaling the castle was up ahead through the trees.
'Do you know exactly who stands against my mate?'
'We have a few that spoke out against you and her. Those few are being detained in the dungeon.'
'Very good.'
Cassandra started to stir in his arms. Her beautiful blue eyes peeped open the tiniest bit. She gave a small whimper and moan as she struggled to wake up.
He kissed her hair as her head lulled back on his shoulder.
'Hush love. We'll be home soon.' He soothed.
She sighed softly before going back under. The gate that surrounded the castle opened revealing every omega, human, or other fae creature servant lined up on each side to welcome him home. Behind the servants were his people spread out in all directions. He walked down the aisle. His guards followed behind him. He could feel their stares on the woman lying asleep in his arms. He was carefully looking for any sign of malice or threat in their expressions. He saw none. But looks can be deceiving. He heard whispers.
'That must be her.' He heard a woman gush.
'She's beautiful.' A man agreed.
'Mama, is she the new princess?' He heard a child ask her mother.
He continued to walk until he was inside the castle doors.
'Welcome home, bro.' Johnathan came down the long corridor and greeted him.
'Hello, brother.'
He saw his brothers eyes look from him to Cassandra.
'So this is my new sister, huh?'
'Yes and your queen.'
Johnathan laughed.
'I hoped she'd be a little more lively then this.'
James scowled.
'She wasn't exactly cooperative with coming with me. So I had help.'
Jonathan sighed. 'Well, your going to have your work cut out for you today.'
'So I've been told. I'm going to put her to bed. When I come back we will discuss exactly what happened while I was away.'
'Alright. Go do you. I'm going to get something to eat, then I'll meet you in your office.'
'Fine.' James went down the hall and up the stairs to his bedroom. He laid her on the bed. Already turned down. Courtesy of one of the maids that was now standing outside the bedroom waitin for further instructions. He stood back and admired her. She just fit. Here. In his home. His room. His bed. With a snap of his fingers the maid rushed in.
'Get her changed into something comfortable. If I'm not here when she wakes, come and get me immediately.'
The maid bowed her head. 'Yes your majesty.'
With one last look at Cassandra's face he left the room. His brother was waiting for him as promised. James sat behind his desk. His office was mahogany wood. Blood red walls. Black carpeting. Beyond his desk and the two chair in front of it, was a sitting area. Leather couch, a flat screen tv, a couple leather arm chairs. and a small round glass black coffe table. All masculine and screamed intimidation yet had the potential to fool somone into a false sense of security.
'Now.' He said while picking up the report on his desk. 'Care to explain what the hell happened while I was gone?'
