(James POV)

It was quiet as they moved along the corridors. James tried to use his smell to track but it was useless. He could feel his wolf. But it was as if he was just out of reach. Like he was blocked or stuck. But the desire to protect, touch, and just pure desire for Cassandra was there still. His wolf was frustrated just like James.
'Were getting close.' Cassandra whispered. 'I'm not sure how exactly but I can feel them.'
'Feel them?' James cocked his head in intrigue.
'Yes. Rex and Vince. It's like there's a pull.'
'What does it feel like?'
She shrugged slightly as they all continued forward.
'I don't know. It's…a warm feeling. It's like I'm blind but I know they're here.'
James was shocked. A family bond.
It only happened with shifters. Cassandra was not a shifter.
Looking down at her slightly protruding womb he smiled softly. But his son was.
He must trust and recognize them as part of his pack. His family.
It would make sense. If what Cassandra said was true he was developing strength and demonstrating powers from the womb. It would seem with witch and alpha power.
With what he just witnessed he would be a strong alpha. More powerful than him.
'Ours.'
He froze. The voices were walking up. He could feel their craving for him. His son.
He saw Cassandra gasp and back away while covering her belly with her hands.
Of course. Power. Also their bloodline.
'No!'
Lucas stopped suddenly and looked at him.
'What?!' Lucas looked between them both. His stance, ready to push or protect.
'No! They can't have him! You hear me?! No!' Cassandra's eyes switched from glowing green then back to blue.
'What…?' Lucas frowned then realization dawned.
'Cassandra we have to restrain him. Before they get stronger.'
'How?' She asked while still backing up.
James watched as Lucas mumbled under his breath before he clapped his hands. Next thing James knew he was on the floor on his back. Paralyzed.
'Leave him. Won't hold him for long. We need to move faster.'
He watched as they hurried away. Cassandra reluctantly leaving him.
He could only watch then listen as their footsteps faded. As he lay there he tried to will his wolf to rise up.
It was the most frustrating feeling. He was just out of reach. He could feel his wanting to come forward. But he might as well be swimming in mud.
'Come on dammit! Break through! Our mate and our cub are here. They need us. Fight!'
All he got in response was a soft faded whimper echoing in his mind.
The war inside his head was violent. The spirits were holding his wolf down. His wolf was barley struggling. His efforts were all still in vain.
'You are much stronger! They are nothing. Show them alpha!'
James was then surprised. He heard a snarl come through his teeth.
'Keep going! That's it!'
Next he felt his canines grow. His wolf had leapt from the spirits grasp. Now he was turning on them. One by one.
James then felt that familiar slight ache as his bones began to shift.
His wolf had them backed in a corner. Waiting for one of them to move.
Fur began to grow from his body. Before he could even praise James was now on all fours.
'Good! Keep them there as long as you can.'
Darting forward he barreled through the dark halls. His smell was back. His brother wasn't far away. Running even faster he found himself in the tower. His brother was in the corner of one of the cells. His flesh was bare and torn. It looked like someone cut him well over a dozen times all over. It would seem the witches had fun with him.
Karma's a bitch.
'Are you going to stand there all day, brother, or let me out to save your ass?'
Growling he cocked his head.
Why was he so eager to help all of a sudden?
Laughing bitterly, Johnathan stood weakly. Bracing himself on the wall he fumbled forward.
'I know what you're asking yourself right now. To answer your question, I want to get out of this hell. I'm hoping by doing my penance by your mates standards, maybe she might show me mercy. Even if that means going through another hell to get free, that's exactly what I'll do. Besides, I don't think I have a choice in the matter. So by cooperating I can possibly get off with good behavior.'
Hesitating James made the decision. After checking if the spirits were still being held back he shifted quickly and ripped the door off its hinges.
Shifting back, him and Johnathan made their way back.
Back in the corridors he followed Cassandra's scent.
He smelled her getting closer. She had Rexton and Vincent with her.
There was blood. One of the men or both were hurt.
Stopping, he waited for them. Johnathan was still weak. He slumped against the wall breathing heavily.
In the candle lit halls he saw them coming slowly toward them. Rexton's abdomen was sliced but slowly healing. Vincent was carrying his weight as they both limped forward.
He saw Cassandra's eyes grow wide when she spotted not him but his wolf form. Freezing in place her gaze shifted to Johnathan.
'Good. You found him. Let's get started, shall we?'
Raising one of her arms he heard Johnathan groan behind him.
Turning he watched him fall to his knees.
Grabbing Cassandra's hand, Lucas began to chant with her.
A sharp pain went through James's head. It was like someone was trying to extract his brain through his skull.
Whimpering he fell to his side and howled in agony.
