Cassi POV)
She sat on that sofa. Feeling exhausted in all ways.
She listened as he left the room. Getting up she picked up the album where it still was, where she dropped it. clutching it to her chest she sat back down. Crunching over glass and debris as she did.
She did kind of feel better. Just a little bit. But there was more rage inside her. If she was honest with herself too, so much sadness. Even after all that had happened she still loved him.
Placing her hand on her belly she spoke softly.
'I'm sorry little baby. I'm sorry you had to hear that. Your mama is just very angry with your daddy. But I promise I won't fight like that again in front of you. You don't deserve that.'
'Cassandra.'
The whisper came through her head sharply. She sat up and looked around.
'Cassandra. Can you hear me?'
'Lucas?' She whispered out loud.
'Try talking to me through your mind. Focus. Picture as if I'm right in front of you.'
She closed her eyes and remembered the way they sat on his back porch.
'Try talking.' He encouraged.
'Are you alright?' She tested.
'Good. Yes I'm fine. Whatever spell that witch used, it put me under but not long. She's older than you I'm sure but still younger than me. So her power doesn't match mine.'
'Where are you? Describe what you see.'
It was silent for a few moments. She waited and listened.
She jumped slightly when she heard his voice again.
'I'm in a bedroom. It doesn't look like anyone's personal effects are around. The dressers and closets are bare. No toiletries in the bathroom except some things under a sink. So a spare room is my guess.'
'Yes. You'd be in the west wing. That's where all the guest rooms are. The servants are on the second floor in the north wing. Our...his room is on the fourth in the east. So I'm guessing you'd be on the third floor. Are you stuck too?'
'Yes. Witches ash.'
'What?'
'Witches take ashes from deceased witches bodies after they've been burned. The ashes are used as a totem for some spells. They are then placed in north, east, south, and west. I think they underestimated me in not being able to tell you about this. Look for the sacs. Do you have a way to burn them?'
'Yes. There is a fireplace.'
'Good. I'll start searching too. Cassandra?'
'Yes?'
'Are you alright. Did he hurt you?'
He did months ago. But not this time. This time she inflicted pain.
'I'm okay. The sooner I get out of here the better and no he didn't. Quite the contrary. I made him bleed.'
Lucas's voice now sounded proud.
'Good girl. You said he bled. Is there any on the floor or on objects?'
She looked down by the fireplace where she hit him with the poker.
'Yes. There is some on the wood of the floorboards. Why?'
'Collect it. On a napkin, piece of paper, anything. That may be useful to you later.'
'Okay. I'll find something. I'll start searching for the sacs too.'
'Good. If I get out first I promise I'll come get you.'
'Ditto.'
They stopped talking and got to work. She ripped up a throw blanket and used it to collect the blood. Sticking it in the back of her album she then started smashing everything else she could find. Tearing books from the shelves she found a green cloth sac wrapped closed with thread. She went to the other side and looked for another. She was so focused on looking she didn't hear the door open. The scent alone should have warned her she wasn't alone. She got the whiff of something too sweet. Bile curdled in her stomach.
'Cassi?'
She screamed and turned around. Her heart was hammering in her chest. Madga and Natalie stood in the doorway. Madga had a tray of food in her hands. The big slice of cake in the tray with the food was the cause if her nausea.
'Oh!' Cassi smiled as she saw them. Praying for her stomach to behave
Madga quickly came in with Natalie. Natlie rushed to her engulfing her in a hug. Magda placed the tray down quickly and joined.
'We thought you were dead.' Natalie whispered as they broke apart.
'We had no idea! We would have said something in your defence.' Madga chimed in.
Questions from both flew at her in rapid speed. Cassi put a hand over both their mouths.
'I'm okay. James fell for a trick Johnathan planned. I was then taken by witches. Tortured for months. Rexton and Vincent are fine.' She summarized.
'Why did you come back here?' Madga asked.
'I needed my photo album back. It's what little I have left of my mama. Lucas helped me get-'
'Lucas?' Natalie asked.
'Oh yes. He's my father. Long story. But now I'm stuck and so is he. There's these little sacks I need to find to get out of here to break this barrier spell. I found one.' She held it up.
'Oh no.'
'Help me? Please?'
Natalie and Madga looked scared and uncertain. Madga finally spoke.
'Cassi.' She slowly started. 'We'd like to. You are our friend. But if we help you he very well may kill us.'
'How will he know?'
'He sent us up here to feed you.' Natalie explained.
Cassi thought for a second before she had an idea.
'Come with me. To the human world. You can bring your family too. You guys have no idea what the human world can do for you. I'd love it if you guys helped me with my baby.'
To say they were shocked seemed a bit of an understatement. Their eyes grew round and jaws popped open.
'Baby? As in cub? You're pregnant?' Madga gasped.
'Yes. You both could help me. Rexton and Vincent will be there too.'
Natalie looked away.
'What?' Cassi asked.
'Cassi. Even if my mate did agree...this is still our home. Our son's home. If alpha finds you gone he will go ferrel again. Especially now if you are carrying his cub.'
'Again?'
Madga sighed before nervously glancing around.
'After you were gone...he went completely wild. We don't know all what is true or rumors but either way it's gotten very bad.'
'Tell me.' Cassi sat down on the sofa and waited for them to sit.
After they got comfortable, Madga began.
'After he found you gone...what we heard was he threw his brother into the dungeons-'
'There are dungeons here?'
Natalie straightened as fear seemed to come into her eyes.
'Yes. It's reserved only for the worst. Supposedly it was completely dark down there. No soul ever comes back out. They are meant to rot in there slowly.'
Madga shuddered. 'He threw him down there only after sealing his eyes shut with a silver poker.'
'Oh God.' Cassi covered her mouth at the image her mind conjured.
'Yes. Then after he searched for you. We saw some things. Some others we just heard from others. Every passing day he grew even more angry.'
'His wolf was heartbroken at first. Barely interacting at all. Then as if someone lit a flame he was tearing through every fae that stood in his path literally or figuratively. Some he purposely sought out.' Natalie now was twisting the fabric of her uniform in her hand.
'His beast was so close to the surface at every minute. Even the townspeople could feel it. Some rogues came back to avenge their alpha that died here. As well as the other fallen. His majesty single-handedly destroyed most before they could even get past the border. Between decapitation and disembowelment he killed those that didn't get away fast enough.
I heard he ripped the last one limb from limb slowly. A female warrior. The story goes that as they all fled she stood behind and challenged him. She didn't survive longer then two minutes.' Madga continued.
'Then he just hunted for sport. At least his wolf did. Vampires at first. Then after the witches were turning him away they soon started mysteriously dying.'
As if he had been summoned the door opened and there he stood. Natalie and Madga stood quickly in fear and backed behind Cassi and the couch with their eyes cast down.
He looked at Cassi then at them. She heard Madga whimper. Natalie's hands trembled as she clasped them together in front if her.
Cassi quickly stood and went to them.
'I'll see you both out.' She walked close in front of them as they both huddled close to her back. As if she was a shield.
As soon as they got to the door they all but blurred to the other side of the threshold. They both looked at her with terror but concern.
'I'll be fine. Go.' She assured them.
They didn't have to be told twice as they hurried down the hall.
Leaving the door open she glanced at him.
It was just now her and the ferrel alpha.
