Author's Note: ∆-The pic is of my High School Story game. It's is one of my people. It's what I imagine Lassie to look like! So each time I update, I'm going to start a new chapter so you peeps know I updated. They are not chapters, just random updates. I hate chapters. I decided I wasn't going to make chapters on a fan fic. By the way I have read much of the fan fic for The Grisha Trilogy, they are awesome! Somebody should tell Leigh about our stories. It would be so cool for her to read them! What do you fellow Grisha writers think? Thank you guys for your votes! I went into my last class of the day Monday, and I got an update that somebody voted! It made my day. I had just came from taking a hard Spanish final, so it was awesome! Love you guys! It's really late, so I'm going to go to sleep. I'm sleeping on my little sister's floor because we are having a marathon of Supernatural! It rocks! Saints' Speed -Anna
The Darkling watched me in his cool, calculating way. I felt like I was being read like a book. "I don't exist? Then how am I standing here before you?"
I shrugged again. "I don't know. Just a few hours ago you guys were just characters in a book. Words on a page."
"What is this book you speak of?" asked the Darkling. I might as well stall for time. Why not show them Shadow and Bone? "Umm...I have it..." I said as I bent down to retrieve it. I handed it the Darkling with extreme care as I tried not to accidentally touch him. I took a a couple of steps back so that I wasn't so close to him. I didn't want to be that close to him.
As soon as he flipped to the Before, he stopped. I smiled inwardly. He couldn't read it. "Kristina!" shouted the Darkling. A tall dark haired Heartrender rushed forward. Well, darn, she wasn't in the book. Wait, Alina killed most of his lanckeys. I wondered if Ivan died. He had it coming to him.
I was brought out of my thoughts by the Darkling's voice. "Translate this." "Moi Soverenyi." The Heartrender, Kristina, said, bowing as she took the book. I watched as she scanned the first couple of paragraphs of the Before. She made it a little farther than the Darkling, but not much.
Confusion flashed across her face. "This is a language I am not familiar with, Moi Soverenyi. It is similar to the language of Novyi Zem."
The Darkling turned to me. I felt a slow grin spread across my face. "I just put something together. None of you can read it because it is not of your world. It is of my world. Alina must have come through a portal or something, same as you."
Most of the Grisha were gaping at me. "Strange theory." the Darkling muttered. "It's not a theory. Look," I pulled out my phone," I have proof."
Now they all were looking at me like I was crazy. I quickly turned it on and dialed Mom's number. I clicked speaker phone as she picked up. "Lassie! Lassie, where are you!?!" I cut her off before she could give anything away. "Mom, I told you I'm at Mrs. Anderson's house. The Darkling's here." I spoke in English so that he wouldn't understand. A voice yelled from the crowd. "That's Alina! What is she doing in there?" A fair-haired Heartrender stormed up to me. He looked really familiar. "What kind of witchcraft is this!?!" I glared at him. Not a smart move. "That is rich coming from a Grisha! Are you guys not called witches in other countries? And my mother is not Alina!" The man raised his hand threateningly.
"Ivan." The Darkling warned. The Heartrender backed down. Wait...Ivan? I felt my eyes grow huge. "What!?! Ivan!" I spun around and ripped my book from Kristina. I flipped to Chapter 3. I glanced up at the man and back at the writing. He was Ivan. "Dang it! I thought you died! I-" I would have continued, but the Darkling cut me off.
"So you can read the book, Alina is your mother, and you are a Sun Summoner." I could see that manipulative glint in his gray gaze.
"My mother is not Alina! Of course I can read it! Do you think I just carry around random books I can't read? I mean, who does that? Here, you want me to show you? I'll translate something. '"Wait!" I protested, but the Darkling was already turning away. I grabbed hold of his arm, ignoring the gasp that rose from the Grisha onlookers. "There's been some kind of mistake. I don't...I'm not..." My voice trailed off as the Darkling turned slowly to me, his slate eyes drifting to where my hand gripped his sleeve. I let go, but I wasn't giving up that easily. "I'm not what you think I am," I whispered desperately.
The Darkling stepped closer to me and said, his voice so low that only I could hear, "I doubt you have any idea what you are."'
(A/N: I picked this part for Lassie to translate because when I first read Shadow and Bone it was a hardcover and this scene was on the back. It got me hooked. I have it highlighted in my book. Also the first five times I read it, it was the public library's copy. That copy said nothin about it being a trilogy. I was so mad when I found out because I had already started this story. I almost quite writing this because of it, but my friend persuaded me to keep writing it any way. So that's why Lassie has only read the first book. The other books WILL come into play, I promise. If you have read the first version please tell me what you think about the rewrite. As always, love you guys! Saints' Speed -Anna)
The Darkling stared at me. "That's exactly what happened. How is this possible?" I shrugged. "It's in Alina's point of view so somethings are biased, but I guess you would have to ask Leigh about it. Maybe she's from Ravka."
"Why did you pick that scene?" Ivan asked. I shrugged again. Where was my mom? Shouldn't Dad be home by now? "My dad's going to be home." I blurted, "I have to go." I went to make my way through the crowd, but the Darkling grabbed my arm. I turned to face him.
"Is he the tracker?" The Darkling questioned. I shook my head. "You know that tracker has a name. And, no, Mal is not my dad." He looked unconvenced. I sighed.
"My father looks nothing like Mal and he knows nothing about Ravka. Now, if you don't mind, I have to go meet him before he has a heart attack that I'm not home." The Darkling nodded. "That wasn't a question!" I called after him.
The crowd parted for him as he headed back toward my trailer. I swiftly followed behind him.
