I turned to leave the room, but stopped at the doorway. "You should get some sleep. I don't know how far we will have to travel tomorrow." Then I left before he could say another word to me.

The only thing that occupied the hallway was the quiet mummer of Grisha as they drifted off to sleep. I turned away from that end of the hall and headed toward Raleigh's and my bedrooms.

Raleigh's door was slightly open and her light sent an arc out into the hallway. I pushed it open and peeked in.

She was fast asleep with her arm firmly fastened around her favorite stuffed animal.

Her blanket wasn't with her in her crib, though. It was on the floor, bunched up into a pink ball under my best friend's mop of curls.

Adam's eyes were firmly closed as he ventured off into his dreams.

He must have forgotten to turn off the light before he fell asleep.

I slowly made my way into the bedroom, careful not to wake both of its sleeping occupants. I plugged Raleigh's nightlight in before I flicked off her light on my way out.

Back in the hall, all noise seemed to have stopped. Everyone must have been fast asleep or well on their way to being there.

Once I was in my bedroom, I grabbed a small flashlight out of a desk drawer. I slipped off my shoes and quickly changed into my soft pajamas.

My guitar case was propped against the side of my bed frame, the books that possibly held my future were still locked within.

I flipped the light switch off before I headed to the bed. As I climbed into bed, I pulled Siege and Storm from the guitar case. I wanted to get some reading done before we went off to Saints only knew where to find Mal.

I flicked on the small flashlight and tucked in for the night.

"The boy and the girl had once dreamed of ships..."

"She would rise."

The first bright rays of dawn peeked over the horizon and streamed between my parted bedroom curtains.

It had taken me all night, but I had finally finished the book. The next puzzle to Alina's past and maybe even my own future had finally slid into place.

The Darkling would no longer have the upper hand. I knew what his next moves would be even before he had conceived them himself.

My bedroom light flickered on and blinded me while my eyes adjusted to the new brightness.

"Get up, Lae. We need to leave before the morning traffic rush." Adam stood in my doorway, his hair rumpled from sleep. He stretched his arms above his head. I heard his bones, which were stiff from a night spent on the floor, pop back into place. He groaned before he marched over to my bed.

"Lassie! We need to leave." He sighed before continuing, "Come on, Lae! The Dark Followers are already up and about."

That had me shooting up in bed, wide awake. I didn't want some medieval freaks messing around with my life. What would the neighbors think?
