AUTHOR'S NOTE: So a quick note! The picture above or to the side is of Lassie when she is in Ravka, I guess. I really don't know. Well it is a picture of Anna Popplewell when she played Susan in The Narnia Chronicles: The Lion, The Witch and The Warebrobe. I liked the pic of her, she looks awesome! Saints' Speed -Anna
I slammed the book shut. I loved the ending. But it left so many questions. What if the Darkling folowed Alina? I'm sure he wouldn't just let her get away. What is up with the Apparat? Why would he betray his king and the Darkling? What game was he playing at? What if Mal and Alina broke up?
I loved Mal and Alina's escape. What happened to West Ravka was a work of pure evil. Most things, I was just stunned. I'd never read anything like it. It was so beautifully written. I loved it. I started to read another book, but quickly gave up. My mind was occupied with dreams of West Ravka, a dark prince, and a sun-weilding orphan.
So, I started reading Shadow and Bone again. And again and again. Until I had read it six times. I don't know why I loved it so much, but I did. The book just seemed so personal. Like I knew the characters. Like they were alive and real. And coming for me.
Late one night an idea hit me with such force it left me winded. What if the Darkling came after me. What if he thought I was Alina? I threw that thought out of my head. It scared me. And it was impossible!
The very next day I was outside reciting my favorite parts. I was wearing a new dress I had just got at Walmart with my friends, Haylee and Amber. The problem was that my mom hadn't seen it, and I didn't think she would approve. It was a cute punky summer dress that looked amazing when I twirled. None of that was the problem, though. The problem was the color. My mom never let me wear black. Ever. And the dress was black.
I heard the back door creak open. "Lassie! I'm heading to work. I'll see-What are you wearing!?!" I froze then slowly turned to face my mom. I shrugged. "A dress." I said nonchalantly. "Well, I can see that, smartaxx. I thought I told you no black. Change now." My mom ordered. "Fine," I huffed as I stormed up the back steps. As I made my way to my bedroom, Mom called after me, "Your dad'll be home in an hour. Love you, miss you, bye. Lock the door behind me. Lassie?" "Okay," I snapped, "Love you, miss you, bye." And with that she left, slamming the door to our trailer behind her. Oove you, miss you, bye was something Mom and I said to each other since I was a little girl. We only daid it when one of us leaves. (By the way, Lassie is pronounced like Lacey. I jist spelled it wrong and I refuse to change the spelling.)
I hear the engine of her Ford truck roar to life and fade off into the distance. Good, she's gone. Now I don't have to change.
I slipped out of my bedroom and walked to the kitchen. I grabbed a bottle of water so I could continue to recite.

I was standing in my living room, acting like an idiot, reciting parts. I was on chapter 19, tje chapter where the Darkling and Alina are aloine in his tent, talking. "You will wear that collar for the rest of your very, very long life, Alina. Fight me for as long as you're able. You will find I have far more practice with eternity." I finish the scene with a sigh. "I can't wait till the movie comes out next month! It's too long! I can't possibly wait that long to see what the Darkling looks like! I wish I can see what he looks like now."
"You can."
I spun around to find a man standing in the front door. He looks strangely familiar with jet black hair and gray slate eyes that glimmered like quartz. He was tall and quite handsome. He was staring at me with the corners of his mouth twitching like he was repressing a smile. He took a step forward, and I took an involuntary step back.
"Hello, Alina," came his cool, collected voice.
At that moment I realized who this mysterious man was. He was the Darkling. He was in my living room. (Ever Grisha Trilogy fangirl's dream! Saints' Speed -Anna) And he thought I was Alina!
He took another step, and I did the same. I gasped as my back connected with the living room wall. (Clique know, but it just sounded right. Saints' Speed -Anna)
A look of confusion flashed across his features before it was quickly masked. He lifted his hand and reached for my collarbone.
"No. No. This isn't-What have you done?" (And yes I did just quote Ruin and Rising. By the way I hate that scene. I cry every time. Saints' Speed -Anna)
I was confused. What did he mean, 'What have you done?' I've done nothing. That I know of. "Nothing," I said, my voice shaking only slightly.
He glared at me. The Darkling glared at me. I flinched. He smiled then, but the curve of his lips was cold. His slid up to cup my chin, forcing me to meet his gray gaze. A rush of certainity flooded through me. I despised it. Wait...what? Didn't that mean I was Grisha? And why do I understand Ravkan? I had to get out of this house! "Where is Morozova's collar, Alina?" He asked, his voice as cool as ever. I had to distract him.
"Not here that's for sure," I said in perfect Ravkan, "Why don't you go jump back in your book and ask Alina?"
The Darkling released my chin, and stepped bacl. Guess he didn't expect that. "My book?" That was all I needed. I surged forward and darted for my room. I knew he would have the doors covered, but what about the windows? Pr more importantly, my window?
I didn't have time to think, though, as I grabbed my backpack and jumped to the ground.
Why my backpack? Well, because it contains my cellphone and Shadow and Bone.
Just as I had expected, all of the Darkling's Grisha and oprichniki were in a circle surrounding the front door.
I didn't bother sneaking. I just flat out ran. I knew I had to make it to my neighbor's house. I needed to call my mom. Maybe she sould know what's going on. But the real question was, Who was my mother, really?
=-O :-P ;-) :-( :-) :-! :-$ B-) :O :-* :-D
Knocking on the door, I tried not to appear as panicked as I felt. "Mrs. Anderson, please open up." I pleaded through the door. When Mrs. Anderson didn't asnwer, I gave up and pulled out my ceelphone. My mom had to know what was going on.
I dailed as fast as my trembling fingers would allow. Mom picked up on the second ring. "Lassie, what are you doing? You know you can't call me at work." I shook my head. She had to know what was going on. "Mom, he's here. He's gonna hurt me." I cried, switching to Ravksn instead of English. I heard my mom take a calming breath. "Who's there, Lassie?" I panicked when I heard the pounding of hooves. Were they on horses!?! I'm so screwed. I'm so screwed. "Mommy, it's...it's the Darkling. I'm scared, Mommy. He's coming." I sobbed. My mom was oddly quiet. "Where are you, Lassie?" She didn't mention the Darkling, Shadow and Bone, or the fact that I said a character from a book was after me.
"Mrs. Anderson's house." I coughed out. "Ok, Lassie, I want you to stay there. I'm coming home. I'll be there in f-" She was cut off by my scream as I was engulped in darkness. I heard footsteps approach me, and I panicked for the millionth time that day. Reacting on instinct, I threw my hands wide then brought them together with a resounding boom.
My suprise grew beyond belief when I felt something rushing toward me from every direction. Light birst throughout the yard, shattering the darkness like glass. A gasped exscaped me. I was a Sun Summoner.
I was surrounded by Corporalki Heartrenders. The Darkling's voice floated to me. "You must realize you are surrounded. You cannot possibly win this. Give up, Alina." I shuddered.
"I'm not Alina." I was suprised my voice came out clear. I saw some of the Grisha and oprichniki exchange glances.
If you are not Alina, then who are you?" This was followed by several chuckles from the crowd. Who was I? I had probably been lied to my whole life. "La-Lassie An-Andrews." I gulped. Did I really just stutter? "Lassie Marie Andrews."
The crowd parted to let the Darkling through. He raised a single brow. "Not Alina? Then would you explain why you look like her and why you are a Sun Summoner?"
I shrugged. "I'm just as clueless as you, because last time I checked you didn't exist."
