"I...uh...I don't have anything to say to that, so I'm just going to leave." I said as I turned around to leave. I really need to change out of this dress. It was just...awkward to be wearing his color.
But Raleigh stopped me by the couch. She pointed at Alina. "What bout Mama, Lae?" She couldn't really say my name very well, so she went off of my nickname for her. Then I remembered that I was about to leave Alina still laying on the floor.
"I'll move Mama, okay?" She nodded, but I could tell she was still worried. "Hey," I said softly gaining her attention, "If I play a song for you, will it help?" Her brown eyes lit up and I knew I had asked the right question.
I walked back over to Alina and tried to pick her up. I succeed in getting her into our brown LazyBoy recliner, but I still had to drag her the whole way there. Is it bad that I just dragged my mom across our livingroom in a dress?
When I was done, I pushed my brown curls out of my eyes and went to change.
As soon as I was out of the dress, I threw it out of my bedroom window, which was still open from earlier. I never wanted to see that thing again. Then I slipped on a worn pair of jeans and my art club t-shirt. I topped it off with my worn red Chucks pulled on over my mitch-matched socks. Then I went to find my guitar.
But something else caught my eye first. On top of my pillow was a note that I know wasn't there before. I scooped it up and started reading. 'Dear Lassie, We know your birthday isn't for another few weeks, but we couldn't wait to give you your present! So, Happy Birthday, girlie! You're finally eighteen! From all your lovely friends, Adam (U rule!), Haylee (Love u like a sister!), and Amber (Happy Eighteenth!)
P.S. Look out your window!'I did just that. And what I saw was Adam. My curly haired best friend was standing below my window holding my guitar case. Adam and I had been best friends since first grade.
"Adam!" I called, "What are you doing here?" Adam handed me my guitar case so that he could climb through the window. Then he rolled his eyes as he flicked a dark brown curl out of his eyes. "Giving you your birthday present, duh. What else did you think I was doing?" I shrugged. "I dunno. Do you want to come into the livingroom? I was just about to sing a song for some of my mom's...guests and Rae." Adam nodded."Of course! You're the best! And your present's in your case." I just rolled my eyes, then headed to the livingroom, where the Darkling waited.
I almost forgot him. Almost. As soon as I walked in they were all on defensive. I set my guitar case down and raised my hands in surrender. "He's a friend. Calm down." But, Raleigh, as always, cut me off with a squeel. Adam was her favorite person, beside Alina that is.
"Adam!" She squeeled as she sprung off the couch to wrap his legs in a hug. Adam bent down and scooped her up into a bear hug. "Hey, little Rae. How's life been treaten ya?" He asked with a smile that could make Alina's ray of sun look dull.
