RANDOM_TIME_JUMP*********

Dad's green Ford truck was waiting in the driveway. Oh no! I didn't wait for the Darkling or any one else. I ran for my front door, hoping Dad didn't call the police. I didn't think he would act so rash, but hey, who knew? I just met the villian from a book.

I skidded to a halt on the porch and my cat, Jinx, ran for the hills. I was greeted at the door by a stern faced, green eyed blondie called my father. "Dad," I huffed. I tried to think of an excuse in a hurry. "You better have a good reason for not being in the house, young lady." Dad said sternly as he stepped onto the porch.

"You're right. I was looking for the dog." I lied, hoping it would buy me time. Dad raised an eyebrow as he opened the front door and my golden retriever puppy bounded out. She didn't stop at me like I thought she would. No ran on past to where she came to a stop beside my tree swing. The Darkling lurked by it.

She jumped up on him, almost knocking him down, and leaving muddy paw prints on his kefta. I couldn't help but let a laugh exscape. But then sense came back and I had to get her off him. I sprinted toward them.

"Sapphire! Down!" I yelled as I grabbed her collar. "Sapphie, you know better! Down! Sit!" She calmed down and obeyed. Sapphire sat with her tail wagging, looking up at me like I was her whole world. I glanced up at the Darkling. "Sorry. She just gets excited. She shouldn't do it again." I kneeled down in front of her. "Sapphie! You didn't even say tell me hi. I love you too." I cooed to the golden pup. She just wagged her tail.

"Lassie, who is this man? And how do you know him?" I glanced up to find my dad towering over me.

RANDOM A/N: So this is all the farther I got last night. I just woke up and it's noon. So I'm still sleep writing. :-D Just wanted to tell you guys how far I got last night. And at the looks of it, not very far. :-\ And my dog just did the same thing to me that Sapphire did to the Darkling! Not cool! Saints' Speed -Anna

I stood up and gestured between the Darkling and Dad, "Dad, this..." probably the most bizarre things I have ever done, "...Darren Averrs. He's a friend of Mom's from Russian. She forgot to tell us he was visiting." I pointed to Dad, amd continued in Ravkan, "This is my dad, Shaun Andrews. He's from...here." When I stopped talking I remembered that they couldn't talk to each other. Thank God. Or should I say Saints?

"Dad, I'm gonna take Sapphire inside. Would you bring our...guest inside." I grabbed Sapphire by her collar and dragged her inside. Hopefully the Darkling would follow, along with Dad.

I never made it inside. I heard a car horn and the sound of angered yells.

I whirled around to find Mom's black Ford seated in the driveway surrounded by Grisha and oprichniki. Finally!

Then I saw my mom's panicked expression. Was she scared because she knew who they were or because she didn't? I had to get to her.

took a step foward, ready to sprint to her side, when both of my arms were yanked behind me. All of my questions faded until only one remained. Who knew the Darkling was so strong? Guess he had plenty of time to work on his strength.

Where was Dad? I glanced over my shoulder to find him slumped on the porch railing. Well, that explained it.

I knew the moment Mom saw me. Her panicked expression morphed into one of pure rage. I don't think I'd ever seen her so angry.

A/N: I took a break, but I'm back and ready to write for you Grisha fans! I should really stop writing so late at night. :-\ Bye! Saints Speed -Anna

She flung the car door open and started fighting. All of my hope that the Darkling was wrong went away with the first blow of the Cut. She had lied to me. And I had to get the truth from the villian. My mother was Alina.

I felt the first hot tears track their way down my face as a cold knife pressed against my throat. I hadn't felt the Darkling shift.

"Stand down, Alina." The Darkling's cool voice cut through the noise. I gulped. Mom froze when she saw us.

"What do you want?" Alina called. Well, that wasn't a redundant question. I'm sure she knew the answer to that question. He wants Ravka, the world, and the throne all in the palm of his hand. Unless he already had it. His next words sent a chill through me.

"Give yourself up, Alina, or your precious little girl gets to meet the Saints she never worshipped." Holy Mother of all Saints! He was gonna kill me!

Alina's brown eyes were locked on the Grisha steel resting a little to close for my comfort. "Please," the word tore from her like it was painful, " Please, don't hurt her. She's just a child."

Heartrenders quickly surrounded Alina. As soon as the Darkling's knife was gone, I ripped free. "You weren't saying that a few hours ago when you left me home, alone! I'm seventeen. I'm not a baby that you can boss around, Mother! Or should I even call you that? You lied to me my whole life!" I was in her face now, and no one restrained me. They all were shellshock still. "Lassie, I am your mother! I did it for y-" I cut her off, "No, Mother, you did it for yourself! You lied to me! What, you didn't think it was important enough to tell your oldest daughter that a freaking villian from a Saintsforsaken book was after you? That hurts, Mom. It really does."

Right at that moment the Darkling decided to butt into our arguement. "Oldest daughter? You have more children, Alina?" Alina hestitantly nodded. "Lassie, take Sapphire inside and check on Raleigh." I glared at her. "I don't take orders from you anymore, old woman." I stormed off to the house without looking back. I could feel Alina staring at me. "Did you just quote the Darkling?" I whirled around. "Yes, Alina. Yes I did. And you, Alina are not a fit parent. Just what do you think your parents would think?" I laughed cruelly. "Oh, wait, I forgot. You were raised in an orphanage because they were killed in the Border Wars which the Darkling tried to stop!" I took a slow, calming breath. "Now, if you'll excuse me, Queen of all terrible parents, I must be off to take care of my baby sister because she no longer has a mother." I took a mocking bow before I continued on into the house.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I just wanted you guys know that her little sister's name was supposed to be Riley, but I saw it spelled the way it is on a road sign. I thought it was Riley, but my sister happily imformed me it wasn't, so it's 'Ray-lee' Raleigh. That's all for now. Saints' Speed -Anna
