^Picture above is sorta what the portal between Lassie's world and the Grisha world looks like.

Our horses trotted down the road at a brisk pace. The sun had already started its slow decent towards the horizon.

We were quickly nearing the spot where the portal to Ravka supposedly was. That was according to two 14 year old girls. The Darkling was pretty skeptical of their directions, but I knew what their father had been capable of.

As we approached the place with the portal, our horses became very anxious. They flicked their heads from side to side, their manes flowing in the wind. My horse stomped its feet and became very hard to control.

I wanted off. Now.

But I sucked it up and continued trotting along with everybody else.

Soon, the horses became too agitated for us too ride safely. We all came to a halt beside a large oak tree.

I thankfully slide from my mount and tied my horse's reins to a low hanging branch.

"I don't believe you." A small voice called out from behind me.

I glanced over my shoulder to see the younger twin, Ann. She had a determined look on her face that told me she wouldn't back down without getting the answers she wanted.

I turned around to face her fully. "Look, kid. I know you think I'm a hero and all because I'm Alina's daughter, but I'm not. I'm just not. Alright?" Hopefully this time my harsh words would through too her.

She gave me a look that clearly stated that she thought I was insane, her blue eyes disbelieving.

I lifted a single eyebrow, silently pleading for her to go away. I want in the mood to be interrogated.

When she showed no signs of relenting, I glanced around at the Grisha, desperately looking for another small version of Mal.

I found her speaking to the Darkling, her blue eyes lit in anger and her small hands curled into tight fists.

I grabbed ahold of Ann's small hand and made a beeline towards them.

Ann kept up her stream of disbelief all the way to them, her words filled with a hope that I would save them from the on coming darkness.

I continued to ignore her.

As we neared them, I caught the end of Marie's harsh words. "-not end like you want it to." She spat venomously.

Ann slipped out of my hold and nearly tacked her twin. "Marie! You can't tell him!" She yelled quickly in alarm. She yanked her sister back from the Darkling and whispered harshly in her ear.

He glanced at me and raised a dark eyebrow. I shrugged. I had not the slightest clue what they were talking about and why they couldn't tell him.

When the two straightened and returned to the group, the Darkling spoke up. "I think its time we left. We will have to walk the horses through the portal. They'll be to spooked to ride safely." Then he turned and glided back to his mount.

The twins' blue eyes flickered over me, one still burning in seething hatred and the other, oddly with curiosity.

I turned on my heel and strode away from them. I heard them follow me.

Behind me, they were throwing harsh comments at each other, their words to low for me to hear.

I continued onto my horse. I didn't want to hear whatever horrible words that were being exchanged.

They thankfully went their seperate ways to their own mounts. Ann and Marie both kept sending molten glares to each other.

I patted my horse's flank as I watched everyone else lead their horses down the wooden path.

I grabbed the mount's reins and followed after the long line, my feet heavy with the pain of leaving my world, but my heart light with the excitement of seeing my mother's.

Finally, we reached the portal.

In front of us and down the path a slight way was a glowing... light. It was like the sun was reflecting off of nothing at all.

My destiny lay on the other side of that glare.

The Darkling, Ivan, and Kristina were at the very front of the line and should have logically entered first. Instead the Darkling hung back and let Ivan and Kristina proceed into Ravka.

The line moved forward as more and more Grisha returned to their home world, but still, the Darkling remained.

Ann and Marie were a couple of places ahead of me, a single Grisha between us.

I watched on as they took turns entering. Marie sent a glare at the Darkling while Ann merely ignored him. If only she had the same tactic with me.

The person ahead of me walked through, their horse whining loudly.

And then, it was my turn.

The Darkling's gray eyes met mine as I stepped forward.

A sudden realization dawned on me. He had waited for me. He must not have thought me trustworthy enough to keep my word. He acted like I was going to make a break for it while his back was turned.

Maybe Alina had, but I wasn't going to abandon the twins like that. Adam trusted me to take care of them.

I broke away from his burning gaze and slowly walked my horse through the glaring light.

I could not see anything, hear anything, feel anything for a second. Then I was on the other side and taking my first steps into a whole new world.

There was not turning back now. My life would forever be changed. And I wasn't sure if I was entirely ready for it.
