Soon enough, all of the island heard of what was to come.
If i knew anything about my father, it was that he loved revenge.
The cruelest, unkind things I have ever witnessed were from that man and his ego-driven rage.
Even though it was possible that nothing would even happen, we still had to be prepared.
I had a bad feeling.
I also knew Keir.
He was a fighter.
And I'm finding out that he could probably be just as cruel.
Kallen stayed as far away from me as possible. He refused to even meet my eyes, let alone be in the same room as me.
It broke my heart.
Helaina even seemed to be more distant.
The sweetest woman I had ever met, was repulsed by me because I put her and her people in danger.
I helped as much as I possibly could, helping drag in supplies from Melora and building weapons.
I even helped Tomas and Reign train some more of the island boys and girls. Everyone needed to have some sort of defence.
The nights spent waiting and worrying were cruel.
Ambrose stayed with me through it all.
Every nightmare that had me screaming and crying, every sleepless night worrying about my family here.
He would hold me and kiss me until I fell back asleep in his arms.
He was all that I needed.
It was currently dawn about a week after Keir had left with the ship.
I was up throwing on a pair of long pants and a long sleeve top. The weather had been about as cold and unforgiving as the atmosphere.
The clouds hadn't let any sun seep through for ages.
It was a bad omen.
Ambrose stumbled up behind me and wrapped his long arms around my waist.
I leaned back into him with a sigh.
He was the only sense of relief I had.
"Why are you up so early" he rasped into my ear.
The scent of peppermint infiltrated my senses and I inhaled deeply.
His lips ran down my ear to my shoulder.
He brushed his lips sensually against my neck and hummed.
I turned around in his grip so that my lips could meet his.
His warm mouth fit around mine perfectly and I melted into his touch.
"Time to go to work" I mumbled against him.
He rubbed his nose against mine and lifted his hand to tuck away a stray piece of my hair.
"Come back to bed butterfly" he smiled.
Gods that smile.
It made my knees weak.
I felt so special to be one of the few that got to witness that smile.
"There's so much to do" I quipped pulling back slightly.
"Calenthe" he groaned.
He almost never said my full name.
