I woke up with a gasp.

Everyone and anyone who survived was scurrying around the church.

Yells and screams of the injured people filled the long halls. The cruel sounds made my ears ring.

I tried to sit up but my abdomen stung wickedly. I let out a yelp at the feeling of a million knives stabbing me all at once.

My eyes scanned the nervous crowd trying to find a familiar face.

The bed squeaked as i tried my best to throw my legs off the cot that held me.

Grimacing I forced myself off the bed and took a deep breath.

A wandering woman walked by me and told me to lie down.

"Where's Ambrose?" I asked her weakly.

She gave me a smile full of pity and took my arm trying to lead me back to my bed.

I pulled my arm from her grip. "No- no please where is he?!"

"Calenthe please you'll hurt yourself!" The woman struggled to keep hold of me.

The sounds that were coming out of me were that of a small child. I was hurt and afraid and highly disoriented.

My weak state made me vulnerable and that was starting to trigger my fight or flight.

"Give her to me Salma." A deep throaty voice demanded.

My head whipped over to a figure who had made their way over to the commotion.

Kallen was cut up badly.

"Kallen!" I exclaimed limping over to him as fast as I could.

We both groaned out in pain at the impact my body made against his. I still hugged his damaged figure close to mine.

A small sense of relief floated through me.

"We did it huh" he whispered into my hair.

My shoulders sagged a little out of relief.

"It's over now?" I asked him.

He planted a small kiss on my head and patted my sore back.

"It's over Cal."

I pulled away from his grip and my expression turned serious.

"Where's Ambrose?" I asked again.

His face much like Salma's flinched at the name. He took a deep breath.

"Please Kallen" my voice was pleading.

He sobered. "Ok, I'll take you to him.

He put one arm around me for support and lead me through the crowd of injured people.

As we passed I could feel wandering eyes engaged on us.

I glanced around at all the battered faces expecting to see hatred and detest looking back but was I saw was appreciation and admiration.

Kallen followed my attention. "You're a hero Cal, they all came around after they saw your sacrifice."

A small sense of calmness washed over me at his comment.

I wasn't sure if I'd be kicked out of the island after the war. I'd understand if they had wanted me gone.

After all, I was relatively responsible for this, and I still felt the guilt.

Kallen lead me through a hall and into a private room at the back of the church.

I shuddered at the coolness of the hall.
