My eyes were leaden with sleep, my mouth bone dry as I tried to push myself to consciousness.
My breathing slowly picked up as I tried to open my eyes.
I felt as if I was swaying in the wind.
I looked down and realized that I was half submerged in icy blue water.
My eyes fixated on the rope that had been tied around my waist.
I remembered back to the storm when I tied myself to the boat before falling unconscious. My hand went to the back of my head, feeling a large bump that had formed.
As I grimaced at the injury, I felt a shot of pain move down the curve of my cheekbone. My hand raised to my face, feeling the large gash running through my cheek.
It would definitely scar.
I rolled my eyes and started fumbling with the knots around my waist that were keeping me tied to the boat.
The sun was shining bright on the sea so I felt no need to keep myself tethered back.
As I was released into the water, I tried my best to ignore the sharp pains running down my hips, thighs and knees.
Last night's battle against the sea was really weighing on the integrity of my body.
Though to be fair, I wasn't the fittest lady. Sulking in my room all day for months proved that.
I tried my best to maneuver my way around the boat, and as I reached the other side, I gasped at what I saw.
I was so certain that I would be stranded out in the sea, that the storm carried me off to some medial point in the ocean where there was no possibility of land for miles.
I was ok with that.
But what stood in front of me proved far more startling than the latter assumption.
Land.
Not just land but a big old island.
It was close enough to swim to, but not without struggle.
Adrenaline shot through me as I understood the possibility of Keir surviving the storm.
I used my feet to push off the boat, making my way through the shallow waters toward the ever-growing island.
As I made it close to shore, I tried standing in the water, hoping that the water could help me regain strength in my legs.
"KEIR" I screamed at the top of my lungs
"KEIR ITS CALLE I'M HERE"
My arms reached for the rocks leading up to the shore. As I pulled myself up I could feel the sand beneath my feet.
My mind raced back to when my mother would take me out to the sandy beaches of Hyrath. The feeling of sand on my skin feels almost foreign now.
I hoisted myself upon the rocks so that I could see more of the island.
A moving figure in the distance caught my eye.
He looked tall and broad, almost abnormally tall. But I just assumed it was my skewed overhead view.
"KEIR OVER HERE, I'M OVER HERE" I screamed impossibly loud.
The figure turned to where I was waving my arms.
"YES BABY IT'S ME CALLE" I yelled.
The figure pulled something out from behind himself and aimed it at me. I assumed it was a telescope that could've washed up amongst the wreckage.
