Lilabeth and I changed in her cottage.
I threw on a small black satin wrap dress that flowed to my mid thigh, pair with a pair of nude platform sandals.
Lila's old self glowed through the long pink dress she wore. I smiled at her as she emerged from the bedroom.
"You look beautiful Lil" I gleamed.
The blush on her face brought me back to peaceful times.
It was also a little painful to remember that it was always Durian who made her smile like that.
My heart ached.
Trying not to upset Lilabeth I grabbed her hand and dragged her petite figure out the door.
She pretended to resist but eventually let me drag her along.
We kept conversation light as we discussed Ambroses progress.
She rolled her eyes at his stubbornness towards his injuries, and I laughed along with her.
"You seem excited" she told me.
I bumped her shoulder with mine.
"I get to see you, and Kallen and everyone. Of course I'm happy." I responded hoping she'd buy it.
I had a big surprise for everyone, and it was hard to keep the excitement from my features.
"I'm glad I get to see everyone too. It really looks like the island is coming together." she observed.
Over many days, the island was being pieced together slowly but surely.
Everything was returning back to normal and I couldn't be more happy about it.
The only thing that stung was having to move on without Durian. It left a bitter taste.
I dragged Lila the long way so she could see more of the mainland before retiring to our old spot by the fire pit.
The sweet smell of roasted pineapple and baked breads filled my nostrils.
We basically galloped towards the group.
"Lilabeth baby!" Kallen screeched scooping her up in his arms like a proud big brother.
I laughed at the horrified look on her face as he squeezed the life out of her.
I joined Ambrose as he welcomed me into his embrace with his arms wide. I found my spot between his arms, my head against his chest.
The sharp smell of peppermint met my nose and I felt at home and at peace.
My eye likes drooped as I began to feel drowsy in my lovers arms.
The sun set along with my energy.
Everyone else sat along the benches joining the static inert energy.
It felt like everyone was finally realizing that they could rest.
I saw shoulders drop, breaths let out, postures droop. Comfort.
We found comfort in each other.
Kallen went on about his sentimentality towards the group.
He made this goofy speech about how glad he was that we could get our lazy asses out here.
He directed that last point to Ambrose and I giggled in his arms.
The conversation took a turn as Durian was brought up.
We each decided to go around the circle and share our favourite memory about Durian.
