Their caws filled the air cutting out the twitter of wildlife and the rushing of water. Picking up the pace i had a light jog on to get to the duke. Through the decaying paths i could see crows perching on local trees and stands. their eyes glinting as i walked past them, following my every move. she was watching.
Reaching the main center i could see the cart, the faded red paint and artifacts scattered outside i ignored everything around me to make a beeline to his cart.
"Ah! hello there (y/n), welcome back. what can i do- are you okay?"
i lent over and tried to catch my breath as i could feel my heart in my throat not just from running. i waved my hand and gave a smile as i looked up at him, nothing has changed, he still was the flamboyant merchant i knew him to be.
" yeah... I'm okay, just- outta breath is alll"
I put my hands on my hips and leant back filling my lungs with the evening air.
"so what can I do for you?"
"uhhh, some uh... blue print paper please."
There was a deep jovial laugh as he turned to his right and took out a wad of it. The navy paper boxes and dotted just like the one I had before.
" so what is that mind planning on building this time around?"
"just tinkering with metal and electrics, nothing too fancy."
I couldn't tell him what I was actually doing but I think he knows just from that pause. He raised his eyebrow and flicked the wad of paper inspecting it.
"ah I see, anything for me?"
"hehe maybe maybe, you'll just have to wait and see."
i gave him a small smile and shook my head. It was a definite no. I might make him something later, but not this time around.
"well I look forward to seeing what you make, how much do you need?"
"bout 20 just incase, you never know"
He nodded and handed me over the paper. He placed it into a little bag aswell, I took it and felt my arm twinge as the weight pulled at my muscles. It was supprisingly heavy for a few sheets. I went to go get some money out for him but he stopped me.
"it's free, the payment will be with the object you create."
Giving me a soft smile I couldn't help but laugh and smile with him. But that didn't last long. Just as I opened my mouth to say something dukes face dropped, masked now with a hollow smile. There was a tall slender shadow cascading over, bleeding up the walls of dukes waggon, dimming the metal inlays embeded in the wood. I could hear my heart in my head, puslisng and stretching the skin as it pulsed. That knot resting and pulling as I heard their steps get closer.
"ah mother miranda, a pleasure as always. How may I help."
