Gyuri wholeheartedly disliked group projects. Whether it was in duos, trios, etcetera... it turned into a hot mess 99% of the time, except for those lucky cases in which you were paired with friends. However, that was not the case this time and Gyuri sighed deeply when she read her name next to two other girls from her year whom she barely knew. All she knew about them is that they were best friends, and always gossiping about anything and anyone.
Now, to say that she never gossiped herself would be a lie. Everyone gossips sometimes. But these girls took it to the next level, always talking about everyone behind their backs. The only thing that seemed to be fueling them in life were groundless rumors that they fed off of like stray cats of litter. Gyuri despised people like that. Didn't they have better things to do with their time? Like, study, maybe? They were in the final year of their master's degree just as much as Gyuri was.
Still, Gyuri didn't want to meet them with a huge prejudice in the back of her head and so she composed herself before walking up to the two girls. They were just on their way out of the lecture hall when Gyuri caught up to them, stopping them in their tracks. The girls raised a brow as they observed the girl next to them and waited for her to say something because God forbid they took the initiative of greeting her.
Gyuri offered them a kind smile and bowed slightly. "Hi. I'm pretty sure I'm in your group for the project."
"You're Choi Gyuri?" One of the girls, Eunha, asked.
"That's me," Gyuri nodded.
"Oh, okay," Eunha said, unbothered.
Ignoring their attitude, Gyuri spoke up again. "I thought it'd be a good idea to sit down together and plan some things out for the project."
The other girl, Hyorin, shook her head. "I'm sorry, but we're going to get coffee, so we can't right now."
"Yeah, we should meet up some other time," Eunha added with a fake smile. She took Hyorin by her arm and began walking away but was stopped when Gyuri went to stand in front of them.
"What?" Hyorin asked, visibly annoyed.
"You know, we really only have to plan out a vague idea for the project. It won't take long. 30 minutes, max. So unless you're both caffeine addicts, I think getting coffee can wait for that long, right?" Gyuri asked, giving them the same fake smile she received moments before. Hyorin glared at her and Eunha sighed deeply.
"Fine. Let's go,"
"Great!" Gyuri smiled and followed the two girls to one of the many study rooms on campus. Gyuri took a seat opposite them and took out her laptop. Eunha and Hyorin just dropped their bags on the table and leaned back in the chairs as they scrolled mindlessly on their phones. Gyuri watched them in astonishment. Were they being serious?
She shook her head softly and looked up the project's details online. They had to find an existing theory from existing research, preferably an older one, and research it all over again with modern-day tools and sources. It had to connect to the recently discussed material in their course, but there was a broad variety of subjects and researches that fit in that category.
