Fanning her face with her hands, Gyuri closed her eyes. The sun was blazing. She stood before the window of a clothing store, regretting her decision to go shopping on a day like this. Then again, she hadn't come all this way just to return after only 30 minutes of window shopping.
She collected herself and stepped inside the store. The AC was blasting; a true blessing. Gyuri let out a breath of relief at the cool air before moving on to some of the racks in the store. She didn't have any particular goal today, she just felt like shopping. She wasn't sure what she was looking for but she just needed to get out of the house and have a little solo date. Her alone time was becoming more and more rare, so she found it important to do things by herself every now and then.
However, the burning hot weather had kind of ruined Gyuri's plans to just browse around the city for a few hours. She was not in the mood to spend hours under the sun, sweaty and all. She had already finished her water bottle and knew she urgently needed to refill.
After trailing through the store a little, Gyuri found a nice top that she bought as well as a bucket hat. She exited the store, the hot air welcoming her. As she struggled with the keychain of her purse, she momentarily lost sight of the street in front of her and crashed into a stranger. Gyuri let out a soft gasp at the contact. The other person instantly turned to apologize, as did Gyuri, but they both froze when their eyes met.
Gyuri could feel the world slipping away from under her as she stared into his eyes. Those eyes she once knew very, very well, but had tried to forget.
Those eyes were now back, staring at her with a mix of shock and uncertainty.
"Choi Gyuri?"
Hearing her name fall off his lips almost sent the girl into hyperventilation, but Gyuri managed to compose herself. Suddenly, the sun felt ten times hotter than before. She could feel every bead of sweat on her forehead, and her throat was on fire.
"Jaebom..." she breathed out.
The man before her could sense her discomfort and swallowed, unsure how to handle this situation. He knew he was the cause of her uneasiness. Her eyes flickered away, avoiding his gaze.
"I..." Jaebom spoke softly, trying to gather his thoughts. "How... are you?"
Gyuri furrowed her brows at his question. Was he seriously trying to make small talk?
"I'm... fine. I'm good," she replied. "What are you... doing here?" She asked, mentally cursing herself for keeping the conversation going.
"Oh, I just..." Jaebom shrugged, looking around, "needed some things."
A silence fell between them and Gyuri bit her tongue, wanting this moment to be over. Being in his presence was making her nervous in a bad way, and she hated herself for it. She thought she had processed everything about her previous relationship but this moment was proving that to be untrue.
