I pulled the door open, staring at him as he stood there, pizza boxes in one hand, drinks in the other.
"15 minutes on the dot." I smirked, leaving him standing there.
"I know. They took the piss." He looked back into the room. "You've got music playing."
"I did before you called." I opened the door, letting him in. My god. A boy. In my room. What a night this was turning out to be. Avery from 6 weeks ago would be screaming and jumping up and down. Present day Avery was chilled out. That pizza smells so good and I really wanted James to feel jealous over this. If he thinks he can walk away and leave me like that. Think he won. He can think again. "Hold on let me take a picture."
"Another one?"
"Hey if a delivery boy is cute, I'm going to send a picture to my friend aren't I?" I sent the picture to Izzy.
Should I send this to James?
Or is that taking it too far?Locking my phone, I threw it on the bed behind him as he sat down on the floor. I settled in beside him as he opened the boxes.
"You look a little flustered Avery." I looked up as I pulled a slice of pizza out of the box. "Blushing like mad. Even on facetime."
"It has been a night." I giggled before taking a bite.
"Oh really? So I didn't get the full story before?" I shook my head no, smiling at him. "Okay well now I'm curious."
"Well you can stay curious." I chuckled.
"Is it about the other guy, who took you out tonight?"
"Could be. Could be about someone else, could be drama. Who knows?"
"You. You know." I laughed, reaching and pulling my laptop down from the bed. "He kissed you didn't he? That's why you're flushed and smiley." I looked at him, straight into his pupils as I took the final bite of my pizza slice.
"I can neither confirm nor deny." He lowered his brows as I put Netflix on and passed it to him to put something on whilst we ate.
"So that's a yes?" He stayed looking at me, moving the laptop to the far side of him.
"You two are playing this kind of head to head race right now and you both want to know exactly where the other stands and who's winning. It's really funny." I chuckled at him which I think just pushed him more.
"I'm not very good at sharing Avery." He pushed the pizza boxes into the middle of the room, pulling me onto his lap in one swift movement. I stared at him. Eyes wide in shock at this sudden confidence he had with me. "Terrible at it in fact."
"Why do I get a feeling your bad news Jasper?" He tilted his head at me. "I feel like there's more things you've lied to me about. I don't appreciate people lying to me like I'm a naïve child." He looked at me, almost looking defeated. "What else have you lied about? Because the way you move me then. How confident you are having me sat here on you like this, walking into my room like it's nothing. That doesn't look like a guy who's never done this before." He pulled me slightly, causing me to put my hands on my bed behind him. But he just kept staring at me. Like he didn't want to admit it himself. "I'm right aren't I?" He blinked slowly and I shook my head, climbing off him. "You should leave."
"Avery wait-" I stood up, walking to the door and opening it.
"Out."
"Avery let me explain." I stared at him. "I didn't want to scare you off."
"Oh well done." I grabbed his shoulder, pushing him out into the hallway and closing the door and locking it behind him. I wasn't standing for this shit. Not a chance. I walked over to my phone, unlocking it and texting James.
You win.
There's no other competition.
He's done.I climbed back under the covers, pulling a box of pizza up to me and sitting in the silence.
I knew that something was off with him. He was too cute. Too many contrasting images. Nothing with him was clicking right. It wouldn't surprise me if his glasses were all for show too. Just a trap to trying and catch girls like me into a false sense of security only for him to get what he wants out of them. He's the exact kind of guy I had been kept away from my entire life. The reason I had such strict parents was because of guys like him.
My phone rung with James' name and I sighed, leaning over to answer it.
"Hello."
"Hi." I sat back against the headboard, laying my head against it as I continued eating. "What happened?"
"You don't want to know." I chuckled slightly.
"I do. If he hurt you-"
"He didn't it's fine."
"Vee-"
"Its fine James. It's not an issue honestly. I got some pizza out of it anyway." He chuckled. "I hate liars. You know that right? If I ever found out you've lied to me about anything-"
"I haven't lied about a single thing Avery. I wouldn't want to lie to you. What's the point in that?" I sighed. "I thought you were just going to read tonight and sleep?"
"I was. Then he called and I mentioned I was hungry so he brought me food." James chuckled. "What?"
"Good old Netflix and chill." I rolled my eyes at him.
"I didn't even have time to open Netflix."
"He moves fast."
"Yeah exactly my point for someone who was supposed to have never had someone like me. Honestly, what a fucking joke. Such a stupid thing to lie about. Like I wouldn't care either way so what's the point? I don't care if you've dated or had sex in the past. I don't get why you'd lie about it."
"What a tosser." I laughed quietly. "Is the pizza even good?"
"Its mediocre at best." I threw a crust back into the box and he laughed at me. "I can not wait to go for a run tomorrow."
"You run?"
"Yeah."
"Where?"
"I am not telling you where I run. You might abduct me and murder me in the woods."
"I wouldn't murder you. I need you alive for all the things I want to do to you." I bit my lip as he lowered his voice. "Apparently that kiss before I left wasn't enough to tell you."
"Oh it was. I needed a distraction so I couldn't think about it."
"Are you thinking about it now?"
"How can I not be?"
"Good. Keep thinking about it. Now there's no one else in the picture I might be able to do something about it if you're lucky."
"If I'm lucky? Don't you mean if you're lucky and I let you." He chuckled. "I need to find another back up guy. I kind of like the competitive James." He groaned and I laughed. I really liked pushing him.
