"Okay he's here." I sighed looking into the camera. "You're sure this looks okay?"
"It looks great Vee. Casual but put together, edgy but not too much." I turned in the camera one more time. "Isn't this like your third date this week?"
"I mean I wouldn't class this as a date. I told James I wasn't wanting to date right now. I wanted to get settled first."
"But then you let Jasper say it was a date with him?"
"Well yeah but that was different. Like, I don't think sitting with him in the coffee shop was a date right? We'd literally just met and we were talking. With the gardens, he picked me up, opened his car door for me, kissed me on the cheek-" I hadn't told her that so I was just going to skip through it. "He had rough plans on what to do, where to go, knew how long it would take. He'd put the effort in."
"Woah woah woah woah. Hold up there."
"Oh. James. I need to go."
"No no no no no no. I don't think so. Did you just tell me so casually that Jasper kissed you on the cheek and really think I would slide past it?"
"He held my hand the whole way around too." I smirked, picking my phone up and turning the volume down as she squealed.
"YES. GO AVERY. GET THEM GUYS."
"You need to calm down there's people here now." I chuckled, locking my bedroom door and slowly walking down the hall with her on my phone.
"So is there going to be another date on the cards for you two?"
"I don't know. I still don't like how he lied to me about the whole introvert thing."
"Stop being dramatic. That's such a small lie it doesn't even matter."
"No but that's why it's bothering me. Like why lie about it? It doesn't matter if he was intro or extroverted. I wouldn't have liked him more or less either way. Just a weird thing to lie about right? And when I met him he had this whole good guy persona then turns up in a leather jacket acting like a badass. It's hot. Like really hot don't get me wrong. but like. It's such a 180. I don't know. I mean I definitely need to know more about him. Maybe like a day time date. In public. Whilst I work out who he is really." She laughed at me. "What now?"
"What about James?"
"I guess we will see how tonight goes." I smirked. "He said there is supposed to be some girls on the team here tonight though which sounds fun. He's sporty too so I'm guessing these guys are the sport kind of jocks I'll be around so I need to have my guard up anyways."
"Not up too high though. Make sure you do chill out vee. You're there to have fun."
"Yes mom." I rolled my eyes pushing the door backwards. "Can you see him?" I was looking at my own face on the camera. I could see him in the background, watching me.
"God he's so hot."
"I know. I could cry." I laughed, turning around and walking slowly towards him. Apparently it wasn't too far away so he thought it'd be best to walk. No car to worry about getting home then.
"Don't you dare hang up yet. Let me see him better."
"Oh my god Izzy." I chuckled, looking up from my phone. "I'm going to hang up now."
"Fine. Stay safe. Remem-"
"Remember everything you taught me. I know. I'll be fine Iz. Love you."
"Love you too Vee. Call me tomorrow." I nodded, hanging up as I walked towards him.
"Sorry about that."
"Don't be. Sister?"
"Best friend."
"She not here?"
"California. She's at Stanford." He nodded. "Ready to go?"
"Yeah. Um-" He stood up from the wall he had been leaning against. "Before we do. There's going to be a lot of guys there tonight. If any of them ask who you're going home with. Just do me a favour and say me." I furrowed my brow at him.
"Why?"
"No reason other than I don't want to see you leave with any one else." Okay breathe Vee. You need oxygen to survive. So take some in. There we go. "You look cute tonight."
"I wasn't going for cute." I smiled.
"What were you going for?"
"Your worst nightmare." I pushed my foot forward, stepping past him. I know he tried to hide it but I heard him groan. Just like Izzy said he would. I had to force myself to not laugh. This whole playing guys was really fun. "Which way?" I felt his arm wrap around my waist, him spinning me around so I was back to looking at him.
"So what was that about me being so hot you could cry?" I coughed at the shock as he smirked at me. "Still not had that first kiss?"
"Not yet but there's other guys hot on your heels."
"Oh there is?" I nodded. "How many more?"
"Just one right now." He let out a sharp breathe.
"You know for a girl who's never even kissed a guy, you sure as hell know how to get them addicted to you."
"Must be a natural talent."
"Mmm." Oh god. Sweet Jesus I was going to die. "So this other guy. He's not kissed you yet?"
"Kissed my cheek."
"Which one?" I pointed and he smirked, placing 3 hard kisses over the top. "Now I'm ahead again."
"You're really competitive huh?"
"Only when it's something I really want."
"Oh yeah?"
"Mhm."
"Well what else do you want? Maybe I can get him to pick me up."
"You wouldn't dare."
"Oh wouldn't I? You don't know me."
"I know you enough to know you want me to give you that first kiss right now."
"I never said that."
"You don't have to. So hot you could cry, remember." I chuckled, I knew my face was bright red. I hadn't even had anything to drink yet either. His face was so close to mine now, edging ever closer with every second.
"Don't we have somewhere to be James?"
"I'm sure they won't miss us for a few more minutes. We're kind of busy right now."
"Busy doing what?"
"Changing your life."
"Look who's got a big head." He groaned again and I had to bite my lip to stop myself laughing.
"You're so annoying. Stop talking."
"Or what?" He's had enough of me now. The teasing as his lips were inches from mine. The heat of him breathing against me. It was killing me. The tension around us right now was so thick I couldn't see through it.
His lips pushed into mine not even a full second after me asking him what he'd do if I didn't stop talking. My heart was pounding my chest as he used one hand to pull my arms around my neck, leading me. Showing me how to do it right. He was experienced with this, I could tell. He knew what he was doing. Once my arms were where he wanted them, he put his hand on my cheek, thumb behind my ear as he pulled me closer into him.
It was a few minutes before he pulled back, neither of us able to breathe. Panting like dogs in the summer heat. Holy fuck. I was not expecting that. I was expecting maybe something quick sure. Not a full blown deep kiss. Everything was fuzzy now.
"Jesus Avery. You swear you've never done that before?" His forehead was still on mine.
"Never." He chuckled slightly.
"Who are you going home with tonight?"
"You, James."
