Chapter 7

Daryl POV

The horn has gone quiet that's good. Then I can hear the sound of gunfire. Of god I know I'm doing the right thing but I hope Merlynn is okay.

"Daryl you can't leave us again. It's okay they are good they will be okay."

"I hope so. I hope they're okay."

"Who?"

"Emma and Merlynn."

"They will be."

We are leading the horde away from the town I look at my gauge damn I used too much sidetracking and not expecting to do this today I didn't fill up.

"You cool Daryl?" Abe asks.

"Yeah I think so, might run outta fuel."

"Fuck it's okay we will be fine." We keep driving fifteen out. Then all of a sudden there's a truck blocking our way this wasn't here earlier. We look at each other.

"Daryl we can't get around this."

"I can move it if the keys are still in it." I quickly climb off my bike and get into the cab, the keys are in the ignition I started it and move the truck, I looked at the gauge and it's nearly empty too, unfortunately. I climb out and climb back on the bike.

"Okay, Daryl five more miles then we can go back to Alexandria."

"Okay let's do this."

We continue to twenty miles, then I hear it my engine is starting to die dammit. I'll keep going until I can't go any further and walk back to Alexandria.

"Daryl, you okay?"

"I'm running outta gas."

"Us too. I'm driving on fumes." I can't believe both of us are this screwed.

"Okay pull over and we run we are that far ahead of them."

"Sounds like a plan."

We pull over and get out grab our weapons and start moving.

Emma POV

Merlynn and I are all clean. "Okay baby now we are all clean, let's go home and wait for uncle Daryl." She giggles at me. "Huh, you like him don't ya? Mommy does too. That doesn't mean she didn't love your daddy any less." I hug her and we go downstairs as we do I hear it. Grrrr oh fuck I forgot to hit it in the head. I have Merlynn to my chest as I grab my knife and we quietly make my way downstairs. I quietly sneak out and run back to our house.

An hour later...

Merlynn and I are walking outside, waiting for Daryl to come home he should be here. We're waiting by the gate.

"I'm sure he is fine Emma. Daryl wouldn't do anything stupid."

"I know doesn't mean I don't worry I worry every time he goes out."

"Hey, Emma. I underestimated you, Daryl was right about you."

"Oh, what did he say?"

"That you were stronger than we thought."

"As I said not everyone here is weak. You know Carol we lost a lot of people. I lost my nanny and she was pretty much my only female friend."

"Yeah you have but you need to get past it."

"I just want Daryl to come back through the gate okay I won't be happy until that happens."

We see Michonne and Heath come back but there was no sign of Glenn or Nicholas. And Rick made it back though worse for wear. But Daryl, Sasha, and Abe still haven't returned. I'm still waiting at the gate with Merlynn, I'm not coming back in until he returns, later on, Carol came up to me.
