No one's POV
Olivia woke up to the sound of her alarm, beeping loudly and echoing throughout the entire room. She quickly got up and walked to her window. The sun was just starting to rise, and Olivia could see the dew glistening on the leaves of the trees outside her window. She took a deep breath and smiled, feeling ready to start her new school year, regardless of the nerves she had been feeling. She could do this. Today there wouldn't even be any real work.
As Olivia began to get dressed, Maya and Carina came into the room. They were excited about her first day of school and prepared a delicious breakfast for her to enjoy.
"Good morning, sweetheart!", Maya said, giving Olivia a big hug to which Olivia melted into.
"Are you ready for your first day of school bambina?", Carina asked with a smile.
Olivia nodded, feeling a surge of confidence. She knew that with her moms love and support, she could handle anything that came her way. She had started to feel better about the upcoming year, shaking off some of the stress from the previous weeks. It was just school, it couldn't be that hard.
After finishing breakfast, Olivia gathered her backpack and headed out the door. Her moms both had a day off, so she walked to school, which fortunately wasn't far. As she walked down the streets, she couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at the world around her. The streets were filled with little children and parents, all heading off to their own destinations. The air was crisp and cool, and the sun was just starting to peek over the horizon.
At school
Olivia took a deep breath as she walked through the doors of her high school. She couldn't believe how fast time had flown by. It felt like just yesterday she was a freshman, eager and excited for what the next four years had in store for her.
But now, as she walked through the halls, she felt the sense of excitement leave her and instead the sense of pressure weighing heavily on her shoulders. Junior year was notoriously known for being the most challenging and stressful year of high school. Olivia knew that the upcoming year would be filled with tough classes, standardized testing, and thinking of colleges. And in case things would go well, also soccer.
As she made her way to her first class, Olivia couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. She knew that the expectations were higher this year, and the pressure to succeed was even greater. She took a deep breath and reminded herself that she was capable of handling anything that came her way. Like the adults around her had told her countless times before, she was smart, she was capable. She could do this. Her friend Zola was also in this class, which made her feel slightly better.
"How are you feeling Liv", Olivia heard her friend Zola ask next to her.
"You look nervous", she added.
"Well, not excited about the fact that you can clearly see it from my face", Olivia laughed.
"How are you doing?", the girl asked back.
"So stressed I could die", Zola replied with a chuckle.
"I can't believe we're already juniors", Olivia said.
"I know, right? It feels like just yesterday we were starting freshman year", Zola replied with a smile.
Olivia nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of nostalgia wash over her. "Do you remember how nervous we were on the first day of freshman year?"
Zola laughed. "Yeah, I was so scared I was going to get lost and be late to every class. But look at us now, we're practically pros. And the best ones on the soccer team", she winked.
Olivia smiled, feeling grateful for Zola's lighthearted presence. "I'm still nervous, though. Junior year is supposed to be really tough."
Zola shrugged. "I mean, yeah, it's definitely going to be challenging. But we've got this. We've been working hard and preparing for this moment."
Olivia felt a sense of comfort wash over her. It was reassuring to know that she wasn't alone in her fears and that Zola had her back.
"Thanks, Zola", Olivia said, giving her friend a small smile.
"Anytime, Liv", Zola replied, returning the smile. "We'll get through this together."
As the bell rang, their teacher Ms Williams walked in and greeted the class with a warm smile. She looked at each of them and said, "Welcome to your junior year everyone, this is where the real work starts!". Olivia's heart started to race as she looked around the room and the other students in it, who wore the same nervous-looking face as she did. She knew that junior year was going to be tough, but hearing it emphasized by her teacher made her feel even more anxious.
Olivia could feel the weight of Ms Williams' words settling heavily on her shoulders. She had always been a good student, but she knew that this year would require her to step up her game. The teacher handed out the syllabus, and Olivia couldn't believe how much work they would be required to complete, highlighting the topics they would be covering this year. She stressed the importance of staying on top of their assignments, asking for help when needed, and developing good study habits. There were papers to write, projects to complete, and tests to study for. The workload seemed never-ending. And this was just for one class.
Olivia's mind was racing as she left her first class and headed to her second. She tried to focus on the positive, reminding herself that this was just the beginning and that she had the whole year ahead of her. Fortunately, she had friends and interesting classes amongst the mandatory boring ones. This year she would be taking AP calculus, AP US history, AP biology, AP chemistry, English, music and creative writing.
As the final bell rang, signalling the end of the first day of school, Olivia breathed a sigh of relief. As she walked out of her last class, she couldn't help but feel a little defeated. She had always been a good student, but she didn't know if she was ready for the level of work that junior year demanded, especially if she wanted to succeed, which she did. She couldn't fail. She believed her moms would be so disappointed.
As she walked back home and opened the front door, she saw her mothers waiting for her with open arms. She dropped the heavy backpack from her shoulders, letting it hit the floor.
"How was your first day?" Maya asked, giving Olivia a tight squeeze.
"It was okay," Olivia replied, still feeling slightly overwhelmed about the day.
Carina pulled out a surprise from behind her back. "We got you a little something to celebrate your first day of school," she said, handing Olivia a beautifully wrapped present.
Olivia eagerly opened the wrapping paper to reveal a brand-new notebook and a set of expensive highlighters. She felt happy, as she had been wanting a new set of markers for a while.
"Thank you so much!" Olivia exclaimed, hugging her mothers once again.
While Maya and Carina kept doing their things and soon began to prepare dinner, Olivia went up to her room. She settled down at her desk to start working on her plan for the academic year. She filled her calendar with assignments and tests and project due dates. Organizing everything as perfectly as she could.
After their late dinner, Olivia decided to get an early night in, in hopes of trying to fix her sleeping schedule for school. She climbed into bed and just stared at the ceiling. She couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment, knowing that she had successfully navigated her first day of school.
It's gonna be okay, I'll be okay, she thought to herself, as she drifted off to sleep.
